so i just finally pulled the trigger on the oneplus 12r cause my old iphone 11 was literally dying every 4 hours and it took like two hours to charge back up which is just insane in 2024 tbh... like i couldnt even go to the grocery store without a power bank attached to it like an iv drip. i really needed something with crazy battery and fast charging so i went with the 12r but now im realizing the whole charging situation is kinda confusing with the proprietary stuff. i know it supports like 80w or 100w depending on where you live but i didnt realize it needs a specific brick to actually hit those speeds and i really dont wanna spend a fortune if i dont have to since i already stretched my budget for the phone itself.
im basically torn between two options right now and i need to order something like today because i have a trip coming up this weekend and i cant be stuck with a slow charger. option one is the official oneplus 100w dual port supervooc power adapter which is expensive but i know itll work for sure. but then i see these gan chargers like the anker 737 or the ugreen nexode 100w ones and they look so much better because i could use them for my laptop too and they are a bit cheaper on amazon right now. i heard oneplus uses some weird pps or vooc protocol and if i get the anker one it might only charge at like 18w or something slow which would totally defeat the purpose of getting this phone...
has anyone actually tested these? if i buy a 3rd party gan charger am i gonna get that lightning fast charging or am i forced to buy the official one to see those 30 minute charge times? i really need the speed because i travel a lot for work and i usually only have like 15 mins at an airport to top off... which one is actually gonna work best for the 12r?
To add to the point above: oh man this is EXACTLY my thing lol. I spent way too much money testing this stuff when I got my 12R because I hate carrying multiple bricks. Ngl I tried to cheat the system with high-end GaN stuff but <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= OnePlus+is+stingy+with+their&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus is stingy with their proprietary protocols. Heres what I found after literally timing them with a power meter:
I've owned every <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= OnePlus+since+the+3T+and+the&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus since the 3T and the situation hasn't changed. They lock top speeds to proprietary tech. I tried using a Ugreen Nexode 100W USB C Charger last year and it was garbage for this phone. Buy the <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= OnePlus+100W+Dual+Port+SUPERVOOC+Power+Adapter&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus 100W Dual Port SUPERVOOC Power Adapter. It is the only brick that handles the SuperVOOC protocol and laptop PD charging at the same time.
Can confirm
Rarely post but — wait, you definitely need the <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= OnePlus+100W+Dual+Port+SUPERVOOC+Power+Adapter&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus 100W Dual Port SUPERVOOC Power Adapter because third-party ones (even the good GaN bricks) won't ever hit those max speeds.
