Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and upgraded to the iPhone 15 Pro Max recently, and while the stock camera system is absolutely incredible—especially that 5x telephoto lens—I’m really looking to push my mobile photography to the next level. I’ve been doing a lot of street and nature photography lately, and I’m finding myself wanting more specialized focal lengths that the native glass just can't quite replicate perfectly, specifically for high-end macro work and some cinematic wide-angle shots.

I’ve spent the last few days spiraling down a YouTube rabbit hole looking at brands like Moment, Sandmarc, and Beastgrip, but I’m honestly a bit overwhelmed. Since the iPhone 15 Pro Max has such a large main sensor and that specific 120mm equivalent zoom, I’m worried about compatibility issues. I’ve read some conflicting reports about older lenses causing vignetting (those annoying dark corners) or losing sharpness on the edges because they weren't originally designed for the newer, larger 48MP sensors.

I’m particularly interested in a high-quality macro lens for close-up texture shots and maybe an anamorphic lens for video, since I’m starting to experiment with the new Log recording feature. I have a budget of around $250-$300 to get started with a solid mounting system—like a dedicated photography case—and at least one or two "must-have" lenses. I’ve been looking at the Moment T-Series specifically because they claim to be built for these newer sensors, but they are a bit of an investment.

Has anyone here actually tested the T-Series glass on the 15 Pro Max? Or is the Sandmarc glass a better fit for the new sensor size in terms of edge-to-edge clarity? I really want to avoid a setup that feels too clunky for travel, but I don’t want to sacrifice the raw image quality I'm getting from the phone itself.

What would you say is the best external lens setup right now that truly complements the 15 Pro Max hardware without degrading the image?

yo! congrats on the upgrade!! honestly, i feel u on the youtube rabbit hole... been there so many times lol. i've been shooting mobile for years but these new sensors are like, a whole different beast. basically, the 15 Pro Max sensor is so big that older glass just wont cut it anymore, right? In my experience, if you wanna stay under $300, you gotta be kinda picky. I looked at Sandmarc vs Moment, and while Sandmarc is beautiful, the Moment T-Series 75mm Macro Lens is actually designed for the 48MP sensor so you dont get that blurry edge look. Plus, you'll need the iPhone+15+Pro+Max&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Moment Case for iPhone 15 Pro Max which is like $50. If you're starting with Log video too, the Moment T-Series 1.33x Anamorphic Lens - Blue Flare is literally amazing for that cinematic flare! It might push ur budget to like $320 total, but honestly, it's sooo worth it for the quality. i mean, i'm still learning the Log workflow myself but the raw footage looks fantastic. gl! 👍

I went through this last year: basically, that massive 15 Pro Max sensor makes old glass useless. Just sharing my experience with these two: 1. Moment T-Series 10x Macro Lens: Best edge-to-edge clarity I've found, tho pretty pricey.
2. iPhone+15+Pro+Max+Edition&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Sandmarc Macro Lens - iPhone 15 Pro Max Edition: Solid, but unfortunately had some edge softness issues. Honestly, mobile glass still isnt perfect for 48MP, but T-Series is ur best bet... gl!

Seconding the recommendation above! T-Series is definitely the move for that sensor. If you want a different macro feel, the Apexel 100mm Macro Lens is surprisingly sharp for the price. Also, for cinematic shots, check out the Beastgrip Pro Series 0.75X Wide Angle—it's way more versatile than a standard wide. I'd grab the Beastgrip Pro Universal Rig instead of a case; it's more cost-effective as you upgrade phones over the years. Cheers!

Curious about one thing: are you shooting handheld or using a rig like the iPhone+15+Pro+Max&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SmallRig Mobile Video Cage for iPhone 15 Pro Max? I gotta know cuz: 1. Heavy glass can strain the internal OIS if you're not careful.
2. Mount stability is key for sensor safety. Safety first! Honestly, those T-Series lenses are heavy. Have you looked at the Kase Master Macro Lens Pro? Its killer for edge-to-edge sharpness on that 48MP sensor tho.
