I just treated myself to the new iPhone 16, and I’m looking for a solid MagSafe car mount to go with it! My old magnetic mount is a bit weak, and I'm worried it won't hold the weight of the larger Pro model, especially over bumps. I’m specifically looking for something with strong magnets and ideally Qi2 support for faster charging while I'm using GPS. Do you guys prefer the vent clips or the dashboard adhesive style for better stability? I really want to avoid any overheating issues on long drives. Does anyone have a specific brand they’d recommend that actually stays put?

Ok so, in my experience, I've tried every mount under the sun over the last few years and let me tell u... for the weight of a Pro model, stay away from those cheap vent clips. Honestly, I'd highkey suggest the ESR Qi2 MagSafe Car Mount with CryoBoost cuz it *actually* has a built-in cooling fan. Overheating is REAL when using GPS and charging at the same time - especially on long summer drives - so that CryoBoost tech is basically a lifesaver.

Dashboard adhesive styles are way more stable for the heavier phones, but be careful with ur dash material... sometimes they leave a nasty residue or even peel the finish if it gets too hot. If ur worried about it moving, the Satechi Qi2 Magnetic Car Charging Mount is also pretty solid and sleek. Just make sure to use a real MagSafe case or the magnets wont be strong enough for those bumps. I would suggest checking if ur vent can realy handle the weight before buying a clip-on style tho. Anyway, hope that helps, gl!

Curious about one thing: what's your dash actually like?? Before I give advice, I'm always cautious with heavy Pro models. The Belkin BoostCharge Pro Wireless Car Charger with MagSafe (Qi2) is great for speed but heavy for vents, while the iOttie Velox Magnetic Flush Mount stays put but your phone might overheat in the sun... basically a trade-off between stability and thermals tbh.

Can confirm

Honestly, I kinda disagree with the standard retail mounts for the Pro models. They almost always wobble over time. If you want zero movement, you gotta go modular. I usually DIY a setup using a ProClip Center Mount specific to my car model and then attach a Lululook Qi2 Magnetic Wireless Car Charger 15W to the tilt-swivel base. It is much more stable than any generic adhesive or clip-on. Quick tip: make sure you are using a car adapter that actually puts out at least 20W or you wont even hit the full Qi2 speeds anyway. Even with the best mount, weak power delivery is usually the bottleneck people miss... plus the modular setup lets you position it right in the airflow to help with the thermals.

Quick question—what’s the actual texture of your dashboard like? Before I give advice, I gotta know if it’s that textured soft-touch material or just smooth plastic. Honestly, after years of trying different mounts, the safety of your phone really depends on that. I’ve seen those heavy Pro models literally RIPPING adhesive mounts off in the summer heat, which is a HUGE safety risk while you're driving.

I think I heard somewhere that Qi2 runs cooler, but tbh I’m not 100% sure if that actually stops the overheating during long GPS trips. From what I've seen:

* Dashboard mounts are usually more stable for heavy phones but can fail in heat
* Vent clips keep the phone cool but can sag or snap plastic slats
* Adhesives are a literal pain to remove later

So yeah, tell me more about your dash surface and I'll see what fits! peace
