Hey everyone! I’ve been using my Google Pixel 8 Pro for a few months now, and while the native camera system is absolutely incredible, I’m looking to take my mobile photography to the next level. I specifically do a lot of outdoor and macro photography, and I feel like a dedicated lens attachment could give me that extra artistic edge that software processing can't always replicate.
I’m particularly curious about how these lenses interact with the Pixel’s unique camera bar. I’ve been looking into Moment lenses since they have a great reputation, but I’m a bit confused about which mounting plates or specific cases are best for the 8 Pro to ensure everything stays aligned. I’m also really interested in a high-quality anamorphic lens for shooting more cinematic video, but I’m worried about potential vignetting or losing that signature Pixel sharpness.
Has anyone here tried the Moment, Sandmarc, or ShiftCam setups on their 8 Pro? I’m willing to spend around $150 to get started, but I want to make sure I’m buying something that won't block the sensors or mess with the laser autofocus. Which specific lens and mounting system would you recommend as a 'must-have' for this specific phone?
Ok so, background: ur sensor is huge, so optics matter more than software. Sadly, I had issues with the ShiftCam LensUltra 1.33x Anamorphic Lens—it blocked my laser AF and felt flimsy... super annoying. For ur budget, honestly just get the Moment Case for Pixel 8 Pro and the Moment 10x Macro Lens (T-Series). It’s basically the only way to keep things aligned without losing sharpness, tho getting both macro and anamorphic will way exceed $150!
> I want to make sure I’m buying something that won't block the sensors or mess with the laser autofocus. Honestly, I've had issues with lenses slipping and blocking the laser AF, which is super annoying. Quick question - can you clarify if you're mostly shooting handheld or on a tripod? Macro is tricky with safety! Before I suggest the Beastgrip Pro as a solid, safe alternative to standard cases, I wanna know ur setup. For quality, the Sandmarc Macro 100mm Lens is incredible, but it's heavy... peace!
Sooo honestly, I had a pretty annoying experience trying to save money on a cheap clip-on kit... it kept blocking my laser autofocus and ruined half my shots cuz the alignment was just slightly off. Not as good as expected at all! If you're looking for an alternative to the Moment stuff already mentioned, i'd look into the Sirui 75mm Macro Lens. It's actually better for flowers or bugs because you dont have to get as close as a 10x, so you dont block your own light. Pair it with a SmallRig Universal Mobile Phone Cage CPU2391 if you dont wanna buy a specific case. Just a heads up tho—the Pixel 8 Pro's bar is wide, so some universal clips wont fit right. Honestly, be super cautious about the lens weight... you dont want to stress the glass bar too much! Lesson learned: cheap mounts are a trap.
I would suggest going with Moment cuz the case mount system is GREAT on my 8 Pro. I have no complaints, basically: - The case keeps everything perfectly aligned.
- Macro shots look CRISP without software artifacts.
- My anamorphic lens doesnt vignette at all. I spent around $130 for my kit and I'm sooo satisfied with the results... gl!
Wait really?? Thats actually super helpful. I always thought it was the other way around.
