I finally pulled the trigger and pre-ordered the Pixel 9 Pro in that gorgeous Hazel color, and I’m beyond excited for it to arrive! Since I spent a bit of a premium to get the color I wanted, I really don't want to hide it behind a solid, bulky case. I’m looking for the absolute best clear case that offers solid drop protection but won't turn that gross yellowish-brown after just a few weeks of use—I’ve had such bad luck with cheap TPU cases in the past.
Specifically, I’m curious if anyone has found a clear case that also includes MagSafe compatibility? I've started using a lot of magnetic accessories and would love to keep that functionality. Also, I’m a bit worried about the screen protector situation. Since the Pixel 9 Pro uses an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, I’ve heard some tempered glass protectors can make the scanner really hit-or-miss. I’m looking for something that feels like the original glass but doesn't require me to press down like crazy just to unlock my phone.
Has anyone tried the offerings from Spigen, Caseology, or maybe some of the more premium brands like Mous yet? What are you guys using to keep your new Pixel safe without ruining the aesthetic or the fingerprint experience?
I went through this last year, and honestly, technical specs matter here. I'm super satisfied with the Mous Clarity 2.0 MagSafe Clear Case for Pixel 9 Pro because the rigid PC backplate actually resists UV yellowing way better than cheap TPU.
For the screen:
- Grab the Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit screen protector for Pixel 9 Pro
- It's 9H hardness but keeps the ultrasonic sensor 100% functional
Works perfectly for me, no complaints!
For your situation, I would suggest the UAG Plyo Series MagSafe Clear Case for Pixel 9 Pro. It’s way more rugged for drops than most clear options but still shows off that Hazel finish. For the screen, you gotta be careful with the sensor. I’d honestly only trust the Whitestone Dome Glass UV Gen Screen Protector for Pixel 9 Pro. The liquid adhesive is realy the most reliable way to keep the scanner working perfectly. gl
> I’d honestly only trust the Whitestone Dome Glass UV Gen Screen Protector... The liquid adhesive is realy the most reliable way to keep the scanner working perfectly. Tbh I have to politely disagree on the liquid adhesive glass - mostly because that install is basically a total nightmare if youre a DIY beginner like me lol. I’ve seen way too many people accidentally gunk up their speakers or buttons with the glue, and then youre stuck with a mess, right? Since youre worried about the sensor, maybe look at a high-end hybrid film instead. I’ve been looking into the ZAGG InvisibleShield Fusion for Pixel 9 Pro because it’s a mix of glass and polymer. It’s super thin so it doesnt mess with the ultrasonic tech, and you dont need a whole professional UV setup to cure it. Also, for the case, check out the Torras Magnetic Crystal Clear Case for Pixel 9 Pro. It uses N52 magnets which are technically super strong, and the price is way lower than the Mous. It’s got a really high-quality feel but is way easier for a DIY setup. Does anyone know if the magnets actually slow down the charging though? Im still learning about the technical side of the Qi2/MagSafe stuff!
Ok so, late to the party but I've been doing a deep dive into the technical specs for these cases. Basically, you dont HAVE to spend Mous money to protect that Hazel finish! Since you're worried about yellowing, you definitely want a hard Polycarbonate (PC) backplate because it resists UV way better than soft TPU.
Here is my budget breakdown:
1. ESR Classic Series Case with Stash Stand (HaloLock) for Pixel 9 Pro (~$24) vs Ringke Magnetic Fusion Case for Pixel 9 Pro (~$17).
- ESR Pros: Stronger magnets and a built-in kickstand. Highkey useful.
- Ringke Pros: Much thinner profile and VERY cheap.
- Cons: Both use TPU bumpers that might yellow eventually, but the backplate stays clear.
2. For the screen: amFilm OneTouch Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Pixel 9 Pro.
- Pros: Specifically made for ultrasonic sensors and usually under $12 for a 2-pack.
- Cons: Kinda thinner glass than premium brands.
Best choice is the ESR for the value. Super satisfied with it so far!! gl!
Id be really careful about going too slim just to show off that Hazel color. A few years back I picked up a super thin clear case for a different phone and dropped it on my concrete driveway... the case survived but the screen was totally shattered because the lip wasnt high enough. For the 9 Pro, I would suggest the Caseology Capella Mag Clear Case for Pixel 9 Pro. It feels much more solid in the hand and actually has some decent corner protection without being a total brick. On the screen protector side, that ultrasonic sensor is honestly so finicky. Ive seen friends buy cheap glass and end up having to press their thumb down like theyre trying to crush a bug just to get it to unlock. I usually go with the amFilm OneTouch Glass Screen Protector for Pixel 9 Pro because it has been reliable for me. It comes with a plastic tray so you dont mess up the alignment, which is basically the most important part for the sensor to work. Just make sure to re-scan your fingerprints after you put it on or it might act up at first.
Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
Saw this earlier but just now getting back to it. Honestly, I have to politely disagree with the idea that you need to spend a fortune on the most premium brands right out of the gate just to keep things looking good. It totally reminds me of my cousin who got a new flagship a couple years back. He was so obsessed with finding the perfect clear case that wouldnt yellow and the most expensive glass he could find. He literally waited to even turn the phone on until everything arrived in the mail. Then, the very first day he took it out, he didnt even drop it... he was just sitting at a cafe and a stray cat jumped on the table and knocked a full latte right onto the screen. The liquid somehow got under the edge of the protector because it wasnt perfectly sealed, and it created this weird permanent bubble that looked like a tiny ocean. He was so frustrated he ended up just peeling everything off and using it naked for the next two years. Sometimes it feels like the more we prep, the more the universe just laughs at us lol. Good luck with the new phone tho, that Hazel is a vibe.
Same setup here, love it
