Just upgraded to the Pixel 8a and I’m looking for reliable USB-C earbuds for my daily commute. I prefer wired over Bluetooth for the better mic quality during work calls. Looking for something under $40 that's comfortable for long-term wear. Do you guys have any specific recommendations that sound great and work perfectly with the 8a?

In my experience, the Pixel 8a is pretty seamless with digital audio, but you gotta make sure the buds have a decent internal DAC since the phone doesn't do the analog conversion internally. For your situation, here's what I recommend:

If you want the best system integration, the Google USB-C Earbuds are the way to go. They're super comfortable for long-term wear because of those adjustable loops that keep 'em secure without putting pressure on the ear canal. Technically, they're great for calls because the Assistant integration lets you reply to texts via voice while walking. But since they're an 'open' design, youll hear a lot of ambient noise on the commute.

If you need isolation, I'd suggest the Samsung Type-C Earphones (EO-IC100). These are legit. They feature a 2-way speaker system with 11mm and 8mm drivers, providing a really balanced frequency response. Plus, they support 24-bit/96kHz high-res audio, so if youre streaming lossless, youll actually hear the difference. The braided cable is highkey more durable than standard rubber ones.

Actually, for pure mic clarity during work calls, the Apple EarPods (USB-C) are lowkey the gold standard under $20. The signal-to-noise ratio on that inline mic is surprisingly high. I use 'em for calls all the time and honestly have no complaints. So basically, go Samsung for music/isolation or Google for comfort... anyway, hope that helps! 👍

So basically the consensus is you gotta have buds with a built-in DAC chip because the Pixel 8a won't do the analog conversion for you. I've tried many over the years and some "passive" adapters just wont work at all.

If you want the best bang for your buck, here is how they stack up:
- 7Hz Salnotes Zero Hi-Fi Wired IEM with USB-C: Audiophile-grade sound. Best detail for $25 by far.
- Apple USB-C EarPods: Honestly? The mic is highkey better than most $100 headsets. No noise isolation tho.
- Creative Aurvana Trio LS: These use liquid silicone tips so they're sooo comfy for long-term wear.

In my experience, the 7Hz Salnotes Zero Hi-Fi Wired IEM with USB-C is the winner. They're built better than the Moondrops mentioned earlier and the isolation is perfect for a loud commute. gl!!

Seconding the recommendation above! I once bought some cheap-o buds that literally started smoking near my charging port... so scary!! Honestly, just stick with big brands like Sony or Apple.

- They have reliable internal DACs
- They wont fry ur hardware

Seriously, spending the full $30 is worth the peace of mind for ur 8a!!

So I've been through a few pairs with my Pixels over the years. For your 8a, you might want to consider the Google USB-C Digital Earbuds. They're like $30 and honestly the most reliable for calls... mic is clear. If you want better audio quality tho, I'd suggest the Moondrop Chu II DSP USB-C Earbuds. They're affordable and sound amazing tbh, but idk, do you prefer a plastic or metal feel for your commute?
