I just got my hands on the new Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and while the camera setup is already impressive, I really want to push the photography side of things even further. Since the unfolded screen is such a game-changer for editing and framing shots, I’m looking for some high-quality lens attachments to add to my kit.
My main concern is the unique design of the Fold. The camera bump is shaped differently than the standard Pixel 9 Pro, and I’m worried about whether traditional clip-on lenses will fit securely or if they might put too much pressure on the hinge or the outer screen. I’m particularly interested in a sharp macro lens for close-up texture shots and maybe an anamorphic lens for capturing cinematic video while the phone is mounted on a tripod.
I’ve checked out brands like Moment and ShiftCam, but I’m not seeing a lot of specific info on compatibility for the Fold's camera island yet. Has anyone found a mounting system or a specific case that works well with this model without blocking the autofocus sensors?

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a masterpiece but that camera island is highkey a weird shape for traditional gear. Since you're looking for budget-friendly ways to stay safe, I would suggest looking into a universal cage setup instead of individual clips that might pinch the screen too hard or mess with the inner display.
In my experience, the best way to get perfect alignment without breaking the bank is the SmallRig Universal Mobile Phone Cage CPU2391B. It's usually around $35-40 and it lets you mount lenses without putting direct pressure on the phone's frame. For the lenses themselves, here's what I recommend:
* Apexel 100mm Macro Lens: This thing is amazing for texture shots and it's basically a steal at like $25-30. It's super sharp and has a long working distance!
* Ulanzi 1.33X Anamorphic Lens: If you want that cinematic look on a budget (around $40), this works great with the cage setup.
I actually tried a cheap clip-on last week and I swear I heard a tiny creak... NEVER again lol. The cage basically acts like a protective skeleton. Plus, if you use a MagSafe Magnetic Ring Adapter, you can sometimes align magnetic lenses directly over the sensors without blocking the autofocus. Before I give advice, can you clarify if ur planning to use a dedicated mounting case or if ur looking at those universal clip-on systems?? I've been shooting mobile for years and foldables are lowkey a nightmare for generic gear cuz of the hinge clearance. Since the island on the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold 256GB is so unique, alignment is gonna be ur biggest hurdle for that sharp macro look.
Quick tip: macro shots need perfect sensor alignment, so avoid cheap spring clips that might slip. I would suggest holding off until you have a solid mount to avoid wasting money. Are you strictly looking for high-end glass like the Moment T-Series 75mm Macro Lens, or are you open to more budget-friendly threaded options? knowing ur total budget would help cuz these setups get pricey fast!! tbh wouldn't want you buying glass that won't even line up lol.

In my experience, you gotta wait for a dedicated lens case. Honestly, standard clips are basically trash on foldables. Unfortunately, I had issues with one before and it highkey felt like it would crush the hinge!! Not sure but I think the island is too weird for generic macro or anamorphic mounts anyway... tbh just wait.
TL;DR: Skip universal clips; wait for a specific mounting case to keep the hinge safe.

Ok so I actually disagree with the idea of just waiting around for a dedicated case. If you look at the market research for previous foldables, the big brands usually take forever to release specific gear and then charge a huge premium for it. Honestly, the "foldable tax" is real and I dont think you need to spend $60+ on a name-brand case just to mount a lens. I've been looking into some more cost-effective workarounds that might actually be safer for the hinge than those heavy spring clips: * Instead of a cage, try a Ulanzi 17mm Threaded Lens Mount Adapter. You can sometimes DIY these onto a cheap TPU case to get perfect alignment without the bulk.
* Check out the Skyvik Signi Pro 2 in 1 Lens Kit. It's way more budget-friendly than Moment, and the clip design is a bit more low-profile, so it shouldn't put as much leverage on the screen edge.
* Look for a Kase 17mm Lens Mounting Plate. They're super thin and you can usually find a way to secure them over the main sensor without blocking the autofocus. Basically, waiting for the "perfect" solution is gonna leave you without shots for months. I'm still a bit uncertain about the exact sensor spacing on the 9 Pro Fold compared to the regular Pro, but going the 17mm thread route is usually the cheapest way to experiment without risking your hardware.
