I just got my Pixel 9 Pro XL and I'm honestly nervous about dropping this massive screen. I need a case that offers solid drop protection without adding too much bulk.

Has anyone tried the Mous or Spigen options yet? I'd love something with extra grip. What are you all using to keep your phones safe?

Yo, I totally get the anxiety with that massive screen lol. Over the years I've tested tons of setups, and you're basically looking at a trade-off between bulk and impact dispersion. For your situation, here's how the top contenders stack up based on the tech specs.

Pros: Dual-layer TPU and polycarbonate with extreme impact foam. It's highkey a tank and meets MIL-STD-810H standards.
Cons: Adds significant weight and thickness to an already big phone.

Pros: Their AiroShock material is the gold standard for absorbing kinetic energy without the bulk. Plus, the MagSafe integration is super snappy.
Cons: Definately more expensive than the competition.

Pros: This has a crazy sandpaper-like texture so it wont slip out of your hand.
Cons: Thinner profile means less shock absorption for major drops. Honestly, I'm using the Mous right now cuz the engineering is just superior for slim protection. Good luck!

For ur situation, I'm pretty sure drop safety basically comes down to shore hardness and TPU density? Unfortunately, I found the expensive brands arent as good as expected for the price tbh. Try these:

  • Caseology Parallax for Pixel 9 Pro XL - under $18 with pretty great hex grip.
  • Spigen Liquid Air for Pixel 9 Pro XL - about $16 and uses air cushion tech. Have you checked those out? Hope it helps

Curious about one thing: d'you mostly drop ur phone on pavement or carpet? I learned that side texture is a lifesaver after my current setup survived a nasty fall last week tbh.

Man I wish I found this thread sooner. Would have saved me so much hassle.

High-density polymers are a decent option for the Pro XL because they manage the impact without adding much weight. It works best if the case has a slightly textured finish so it wont slide out of your hand as easily. A few years ago I actually started building my own phone docks out of scrap mahogany because I was tired of the plastic ones sliding around on my nightstand. That project turned into a massive rabbit hole where I bought a table saw and started making furniture for the guest room. My garage is currently full of wood glue and there is a half-finished coffee table sitting in the shed gathering dust. anyway lol
