Hey everyone! I just pre-ordered the Pixel 10 Pro XL and I’m beyond excited to get my hands on it. However, since Google stopped including the power brick in the box, I realized my current collection of old USB-A chargers isn't going to cut it anymore. I really want to take full advantage of the fastest charging speeds possible for this model without damaging the battery long-term.
I’ve been doing some research, but I’m a bit confused about the specific requirements. I know the Pixel series usually requires Power Delivery (PD) with PPS (Programmable Power Supply) to actually hit those top speeds, but I’m not sure if the 10 Pro XL has specific wattage needs—like if I should aim for a 45W brick or go higher with a 65W one just to be safe. I’m looking for something reliable and compact for travel, maybe a GaN charger from a brand like Anker or Ugreen since the official Google one is a bit pricey.
Does anyone know if a standard 30W PD charger will still be fast enough, or will I be sitting around forever waiting for a full charge? Also, if you’re using a third-party brick, does it consistently trigger the 'Charging Rapidly' notification?
Which specific fast charger and cable combo would you recommend for the Pixel 10 Pro XL to get the best performance?
yo!! sooo stoked for u! Here's what I recommend:
- Anker 313 Charger 45W (cheap) vs Ugreen Nexode 45W GaN Charger (premium) vs Google 45W USB-C Power Adapter (pricey).
- Pros: Anker is way cheaper (~$20) and has PPS.
- Cons: 30W is probably too slow i guess.
Best choice: Anker! it triggers 'Charging Rapidly' perfectly cuz of the PPS. Pair it with an Anker 543 USB-C to USB-C Cable (140W). gl!
Sooo I went through this last year when I switched over and honestly, it's such a rabbit hole!! I spent way too much time researching PPS because I was terrified of killing my battery lol. Basically, the 'why' behind the 45W recommendation is that the Pixel 10 Pro XL needs specific PPS 'steps' to hit max speed. If you use a basic 30W PD charger without PPS, it'll likely cap out at 18-20W, and you'll definitely be waiting forever for a full charge. I personally tried the Spigen ArcStation Pro 45W Wall Charger and it's been fantastic. It's tiny and highkey reliable for travel. I also messed around with a Baseus 65W GaN5 Pro Desktop Charger for my desk setup, and both trigger that 'Charging Rapidly' text every single time. A 65W brick is great because it has more 'headroom,' so it runs cooler than a 30W brick working at its limit. Def go for 45W minimum tho! Good luck!!
Jumping in here cuz I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to power delivery curves. I have spent way too much time testing bricks with a power meter and honestly, not all 45W chargers are built the same. I shifted away from some of the mainstream brands recently and found that the Spigen ArcStation Pro 45W GaN is a total sleeper. In my testing, it maintains the 5A PPS rail much more consistently than others, which is exactly what the Pixel 10 Pro XL needs to hit peak speeds without thermal throttling. I also tested the Satechi 66W 3-Port GaN Wall Charger and it is great for travel, but be careful... if you plug in a second device, it often resets the handshake and kicks the Pixel off the PPS profile. Quick tips:
I totally agree with gerdmnmgxm about those PPS handshakes being finicky. Nothing worse than seeing your charging time go from 40 mins to 2 hours just because the brick and phone arent talking right. If youre trying to save some money, you dont always need to buy the big name phone brands. Spent some time testing these out and found some solid budget alternatives that hit the 45W PPS requirement:
Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.
So basically the consensus is that 45W is the magic number for ur new Pixel 10 Pro XL if u wanna actually see that 'Charging Rapidly' text. Tbh, I've had some bad experiences with 'budget' chargers that claim PPS support but fail to maintain the correct voltage rails... super frustrating when ur phone just defaults back to slow charging because the handshake failed. Here is the breakdown from the thread: 1. Stick to 45W minimum. Higher wattage like 65W is totally fine, but it won't actually charge the phone any faster—it's just good for future-proofing ur other gear.
2. PPS (Programmable Power Supply) is mandatory. Without it, the Pixel won't negotiate the higher current needed for those peak speeds, regardless of the wattage on the box.
3. Honestly, just get any high-quality GaN charger from a brand like **Belkin** or **Satechi**. You basically can't go wrong with their hardware compared to the overpriced official brick. Avoid the super cheap no-name stuff... it's just not worth the risk to ur battery health. gl! 👍
Would love to know this too
