Which fast charger is actually best for the Pixel 8a? Im torn between the official Google 30W and the Anker 511 Nano 3. I only got like $25 and need it by Friday for a trip so i cant mess this up. Worried the Anker might overheat or something... which one is safer for long term use?
Honestly, I've tested a ton of these over the years and you really cant go wrong with either for the 8a. Since that phone only pulls about 18W max anyway, both units are technically overkill, which actually helps keep temps down during use. In my experience with GaN tech, the Anker 511 Nano 3 30W Charger is better for your trip because it's tiny and hasn't ever overheated on me. If you're stressed about safety, the Google 30W USB-C Power Adapter is the official route but it's bulkier and usually pricier. You could also look at the Samsung 25W USB-C Wall Charger as a solid alternative that fits your budget perfectly. Tbh, just grab the Anker. It supports the PPS protocol the Pixel needs to charge efficiently. It's been my go-to for my travel kit for months now and works like a charm.
@Reply #2 - good point! Heat is definitely something to watch out for especially with those super tiny adapters. If you want something that balances safety and price without getting as hot as the Nano, I have a few suggestions that fit your $25 budget and usually ship fast. Since the Pixel 8a only pulls about 18W anyway, you dont actually need a massive 30W or 45W brick. Getting something slightly larger than the Nano 3 usually means better heat dissipation because there is more surface area. Here are some solid options I have used that stay pretty cool:
Unfortunately I've had issues with these tiny chargers getting way too hot lately. It's just not as good as expected when brands sacrifice cooling for size. For your trip, I'd grab the Samsung 25W Wall Charger EP-TA800 instead. It's super reliable and stays cool. Just make sure you have a good cable. PPS charging is picky and a cheap wire wont let you fast charge properly.
