I’ve been a loyal Motorola user for years, currently rocking an Edge+ (2023), but I’m having the hardest time finding a car mount that actually feels secure. Because many Motorola models have the volume and power buttons positioned slightly lower or clustered toward the middle of the side rail, my current universal clamp mount constantly triggers the Google Assistant or tries to restart my phone every time I tighten it. It's incredibly frustrating when you're just trying to pull up GPS!
I’ve looked at a few magnetic options, but I’m worried about whether the internal coils line up well for charging, especially since Motorola’s dimensions can be a bit taller than your average iPhone or Samsung. I’m looking for something sturdy—either a vent mount or a dashboard suction type—that won't interfere with the side buttons or cover the charging port at the bottom. Does anyone have a specific brand or model they use for their Moto? I’d prefer to keep it under $40 if possible. Which mounts have you found that provide a snug fit without squeezing the side buttons by mistake?
Honestly i think those gravity style mounts from iOttie might be youre best bet. Iirc they dont squeeze the sides as much, so it shouldnt hit those buttons... pretty cheap option too!!
Honestly, the key for Moto phones is finding a mount with adjustable 'feet' at the bottom. Since the Edge+ is so tall, you gotta be able to drop the base down so the side clamps hit below those pesky volume buttons.
I'd look for these features:
* **Manual bottom tray:** Lets you shift the phone up or down.
* **Gravity mounts:** Usually leave the sides mostly clear.
* **Magnetic plates:** Stick it to the very bottom of the back so it clears the wireless charging coils in the center.
Basically, if the side arms are fixed in the middle, it's gonna keep squishing your buttons lol. Good luck!!

Honestly, you gotta prioritize safety here because a phone falling under your brake pedal is a total nightmare. For your situation, I've found that the ProClip stuff is basically the gold standard for Moto phones like the Edge+. They're a bit pricier but seriously worth every penny cuz they use a two-part system—a custom dashboard mount and a holder that you can adjust specifically to avoid those side buttons.
I mean, if you want to stay under $40, look at the Scosche magnetic mounts. People worry about the coils, but as long as you place the metal plate at the very bottom of the phone, it wont interfere with wireless charging or the GPS. It’s way safer than those cheap plastic clamps that constantly squeeze the power button and reboot your phone while you're driving! Plus, those magnets are strong enough that your phone actually stays put on bumpy roads. Just make sure the surface is clean before you stick it down!! gl
So basically it sounds like magnetic or gravity mounts are the top picks here to keep those side buttons from being squished. I've had Motos for a long time now and it's always a struggle, tbh. I was just wondering if anyone has tried the 'magsafe' hack? Since u want to stay under $40, u could probably do this: * Buy a cheap Metal Ring Adapter or magnetic sticker for like $10.
* Stick it to the back of ur phone case (just make sure it's centered so wireless charging still works!).
* Then u can use a basic magnetic mount like the Syncwire Magnetic Phone Car Mount. It’s a pretty budget-friendly way to get a really clean look without any clamps touching the volume buttons at all. Basically saves u money and frustration. Does that actually work well for the bigger Edge models though? I'm still trying to find the perfect setup myself!
Ok so I totally feel u on this. I've been using Motorola phones for years—currently have an older Edge—and the button placement is literally the worst part about finding a good car mount. I can't even tell you how many times I accidentally called emergency services or restarted my phone just trying to get it into the cradle lol. It's sooo frustrating when you just want your maps to work!!
For your situation, I would suggest looking into some of the magnetic mounts from brands like iOttie or Scosche. I honestly think they're the way to go for Moto users because they don't have those annoying side clamps that squeeze the buttons. I was kinda worried about the charging coils too, but honestly, as long as you don't stick the metal plate directly over the middle of the back, it usually works fine. I actually put my plate toward the bottom of the phone and it still stays super secure on the dash.
Basically, just get any magnetic mount from iOttie and you'll be happy. They're usually way under $40—I think I paid like $25 for mine? It's been a total lifesaver and doesn't mess with the volume at all. Plus, it's way faster to just slap the phone on there instead of fumbling with clips every time you get in the car. ngl, it's probably the best practical solution for our weird button layouts. Hope that helps, gl! 👍
