Hey everyone! I’ve recently picked up a Motorola Edge, and while I absolutely love the screen size and the battery life, I’m running into a bit of a struggle when it comes to my daily runs. I’ve been training for a local 10k, but I can't seem to find a reliable way to carry this phone. Because Moto phones tend to be a bit taller and have that specific 21:9 aspect ratio, my old generic armband from my previous phone is way too tight and the plastic cover interferes with the touch sensitivity.
I’ve tried a couple of cheap universal sleeves from Amazon, but they either slide down my arm the moment I start sweating or the 'one-size-fits-all' approach just doesn't account for the placement of the volume buttons on the side of the Motorola. It’s super frustrating when my music starts cranking up to max volume because the strap is pinching the buttons! I really need something that is secure enough for interval training but also breathable so it doesn't get gross during those longer 6-mile sessions.
Specifically, I'm looking for something that can accommodate a phone with a protective case already on it—I’m way too clumsy to take it out of the shell every time I go for a jog. I've looked at brands like TuneBelt and Tribe, but I’m worried about the fit for these specific dimensions. Does anyone else here run with a Motorola (maybe a Moto G Stylus or an Edge) and have an armband they swear by?
I’m willing to spend around $30–$40 for something high-quality that won't lose its elasticity after a month. Should I be looking for a specific 'extra-large' model, or is there a brand that makes armbands specifically tailored for the Moto lineup? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Quick question - what kind of protective case are you using exactly?? I ask because if it's one of those chunky, dual-layer ones, it might literally change which size bracket you fall into for most brands.
Before you buy, I gotta warn you about two big things:
- Watch out for neoprene straps. They feel soft at first, but for longer 6-mile runs, they tend to soak up sweat and lose their grip, which is a total recipe for your phone sliding down your arm.
- Seriously, avoid any "slim-fit" sleeves that don't have a specific cutout for side buttons. On a Moto Edge, the pressure will 100% trigger your volume or power button mid-interval, which is the worst.
Honestly, some of those "pro" series brands like Tribe are okay, but if ur phone + case is extra thick, even their XL might be a struggle. Let me know the case type and I can probably give you a better lead!
yo, i feel u on the 21:9 screen struggle!! i run with a motorola edge too and basically had the same issue with the side buttons getting squished. tbh i wouldnt bother with cheap generic sleeves. i would suggest checking out the TuneBelt Armband for Large Smartphones with Tall Screens (Model AB92). it's actually designed for those longer dimensions and the neoprene is thick enough that it wont trigger your volume buttons by accident!! plus it fits over my rugged case no problem. good luck with the 10k training!!
So basically the consensus is that generic sleeves are a total waste of money for these tall Moto screens. I mean, the 21:9 ratio is amazing for movies but a literal nightmare for standard gear!
Before you buy, I gotta warn you about a few things that'll save you cash in the long run:
1. **Watch the button placement:** Most "universal" bands assume your buttons are higher up. If the strap sits right on the volume rocker, it's gonna drive you crazy mid-run.
2. **Case thickness matters:** If ur using a rugged case, you basically HAVE to size up to an "XL" model or it'll never fit.
3. **Elasticity vs. Price:** Those $10 Amazon specials usually stretch out after three weeks of sweat. Honestly, spending $30 now is way cheaper than buying four cheap ones a year.
TL;DR from this thread: Look for brands like [[TuneBelt]] that specifically mention "tall" devices, and maybe consider a running belt if the arm weight feels off. Peace! 👍
Quick reply while I have a sec. Honestly, I've had such a frustrating experience trying to gear up for my Moto Edge runs lately. I’ve gone through a bunch of brands that promised a universal fit, but unfortunately, they all turned out to be a major letdown once I actually hit the pavement. The 21:9 ratio is just awkward for standard accessories. In my experience:
I went through this last year. Honestly, I struggled so much with my Edge's weird dimensions and those sensitive side buttons... like, it was basically impossible to find a sleeve that didn't constantly crank my volume up mid-run!
I eventually realized that my bulky protective case was the real issue for most standard armbands. Before I share what finally worked for me, I have a couple questions:
* Are you strictly looking for a bicep strap, or would you consider a waist belt too?
* How much extra bulk does your specific protective case add to those 21:9 dimensions?
Saving this whole thread. So much good info here you guys are awesome.
