so i just got the moto g power 2026 and i put this really chunky rugged case on it for protection. i have to drive to chicago tomorrow for a wedding and i have zero clue how to mount this thing in my car for maps. i was looking at those vent clip things but my logic was that the phone is kinda heavy and might snap the plastic? or maybe the suction cup ones are better? i only have like 25 bucks to spend at best buy or somewhere local today. i am super confused by all the sizes and dont want it to fall while im driving on the highway... sorry if this is a stupid question i just dont want to break my new phone.
I ended up getting the Scosche StuckUp 3-in-1 Universal Car Mount and honestly i am very satisfied with it. It only costs about 20 dollars at Best Buy so you will have some change left over from your 25. The suction is really heavy duty and it hasnt fallen off once even when it gets hot in the car. Since you have a thick case, the adjustable arms are a lifesaver because they actually reach around the edges and hold tight. I feel much better driving to Chicago knowing it isnt gonna fly off the dash while i am looking at the GPS. No complaints here, it works well and keeps everything secure without needing to mess with the vents. It is definitely sturdy enough for a bigger phone like yours.
Stumbled upon this discussion while looking for gear... Like someone mentioned, the weight of a Moto G with a rugged case will definitely wreck most vent clips. If you are heading to a store today, here are a couple of alternatives that actually stay put:
Man I wish I found this thread sooner. Would have saved me so much hassle.
honestly i totally get the worry about the vent snapping. if your phone is heavy and the case is chunky, those thin plastic slats in the car definitely struggle. ive had one sag so low i couldnt even see the screen before... not ideal for a highway trip to chicago. since you are hitting up best buy today with 25 bucks, i would skip the vent clips and go for a suction mount on the dash or windshield. it handles the weight of a rugged case way better. here are two decent options that are usually cheap:
