Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and picked up the new Motorola Razr Plus (2024) in that stunning Midnight Blue, and I am absolutely loving the nostalgia mixed with the massive cover screen. However, I’ve hit a bit of a practical snag that I didn't really think through before buying: finding a car mount that actually fits this thing properly.
My old car mount was a basic gravity-style cradle designed for a standard slab phone, and it’s just not cutting it with the Razr's unique dimensions. When the phone is unfolded, it’s quite tall and narrow, which makes it feel incredibly top-heavy in my current setup. I’m genuinely worried it’s going to tumble out the first time I hit a pothole or take a sharp turn on the highway!
On the other hand, I actually really like the idea of keeping the phone folded while I'm driving so I can utilize that 4-inch external display for quick music controls or glancing at notifications. The problem is that when it's folded, it's way too thick for most standard mounts to grip securely. It just ends up popping out like a bar of soap.
I’m also hoping to find something that doesn't interfere with wireless charging. Since the charging coil is located in the bottom half of the phone, I’ve noticed that some of the auto-clamping chargers I've looked at online don't seem to align the coils correctly when the phone is fully extended. I’d love to stay around the $40-$60 range, but I'm willing to pay a bit more for something that actually stays put and won't damage the vegan leather finish on the back.
Does anyone here have any specific recommendations for a mount that works well for both the folded and unfolded states of the Razr Plus (2024)? I'd prefer a dashboard or windshield suction mount over a vent clip if possible, but I'm open to anything that's actually reliable. What are you guys using to keep your flippables secure on the road?
Sooo i've been using flippables since the first Z Flip came out and honestly... the struggle is SO real with car mounts. You think it's fine until you hit a bump and your $1,000 phone is suddenly under the brake pedal lol. I totally get the worry about that vegan leather too, you dont want some cheap plastic teeth digging into it and leaving permanent marks!! For your budget and that specific 'bar of soap' problem when it's folded, I'd lowkey suggest looking at the Andobil Car Phone Mount UltraDurable. I've been using a version of this for years and it's basically one of the few that has deep enough 'arms' to actually grab a folded Razr without it squeezing it out like a grape. It's usually around $40-$50 on Amazon depending on the sales. It's super sturdy for the taller unfolded height too, so it shouldn't feel as top-heavy. One thing tho—since you mentioned the charging coil being weird when unfolded, you might want to consider going with a high-quality non-charging mount and just using a 90-degree USB-C cable? I know you wanted wireless, but honestly, even the best auto-aligning ones can be finicky with the Razr's height and might cause heat issues which is BAD for the folding screen long-term. If you really gotta have wireless and want to spend a bit more, maybe check out the Joyroom 15W Auto-Clamping Wireless Car Charger Mount because it has dual coils that usually play nicer with weirdly placed induction points. Just be careful with the suction on the dash if it's a textured surface, make sure to use the sticky pad first or it'll definitely pop off in the heat... learned that the hard way with my old setup!! Anyway, hope that helps you out a bit. Good luck with the new phone, that blue is seriously stunning. 👍
For your situation, i'd definitely recommend the iOttie AutoSense Wireless Charging Dashboard Mount. It usually retails for around $55, which fits your budget perfectly, and it's honestly one of the few that handles the weird dimensions of a flippable phone without it popping out like a bar of soap lol. i've messed around with a few setups and the technical issue with the Razr Plus (2024) is that the induction coil is positioned specifically in the bottom half of the chassis. Most auto-clamping mounts fail because they try to center the phone vertically, but with this one, you can manually adjust the bottom "foot" to line up the coils. It works pretty well for both states... when it's folded, you just keep the foot pushed all the way up. When it's unfolded, you drop the foot down so the top-heavy weight doesn't make it flop around. The side arms are deep enough for that 15.3mm thickness when folded, and the padding won't mess up that Midnight Blue vegan leather. Plus, the suction on the iOttie Easy One Touch 6 Dashboard & Windshield Mount series is legit—it sticks to textured dashboards way better than the cheap generic ones. If you dont care about the wireless charging part, you could even grab the non-charging version for like $25 and save some cash. But yeah, for the full experience, the AutoSense is the way to go. Hope that helps! peace.
In my experience, the low-coil placement on the Razr is the main technical hurdle. I'd recommend the ZEEHOO 15W Auto-Clamping Wireless Car Charger. It features an adjustable bottom bracket, which is CRITICAL for aligning the induction coils when the phone is unfolded. It's also deep enough to grip the folded chassis securely. Should cost around $45 and won't mess with the vegan leather finish. Good luck with the new flip!
> "I’m genuinely worried it’s going to tumble out the first time I hit a pothole" I feel u!! I compared manual vs. magnetic vs. motorized setups last year. Magnetics are too weak (safety risk!), and manual clips cant handle the folded thickness. Honestly, motorized ones are the best choice—the grip is way more secure for foldables. Agree with the bracket tip too; it's literally key for coil alignment so u dont overheat the battery. Basically, motorized is the way to go!!
Just catching up on this thread and man, I feel your pain. I spent forever looking through specialized forums and YouTube reviews trying to find something that wouldn't drop my Razr. I actually ended up trying a few different styles because I was so paranoid about the phone slipping out or the leather getting scuffed. I first grabbed the Vanmass Universal Car Phone Mount and honestly, I am so satisfied with it. The side arms are way deeper than usual, so it handles the thickness of the folded Razr without it popping out like a bar of soap. Plus, the padding is soft enough that it hasn't left a single mark on my vegan leather back. No complaints there at all. Since you mentioned wireless charging tho, I also messed around with the CHGeek Wireless Car Charger Mount. It has this adjustable bottom foot which is basically a necessity for our Razr since the coil is so low. It's motorized too, so the grip is super firm. I prefer the Vanmass for pure stability if I'm just using a cable, but the CHGeek is the way to go if you want to keep the battery topped up wirelessly. Both have been really reliable for me so far and stay stuck to the dash even when things get bumpy...
