Ive been a OnePlus user since the original Nord so Im pretty used to their accessories but man the Nord 5 feels different. I usually just grab a Spigen and call it a day but I heard the screen on this one is a bit finicky with third party glass protectors because of the sensor placement.
Im heading to the Peak District next weekend and need something that can handle a drop without being a total brick. Budget is around 40 quid total. Does anyone know if the official sandstone case actually protects the screen edges well enough or should I look at Dbrand or maybe Ringke instead?

Just saw this thread. > Does anyone know if the official sandstone case actually protects the screen edges well enough Unfortunately, the sandstone case is pretty disappointing for drops. I had issues with it not being as good as expected... it is just too thin for the Peak District. Look at Poetic Guardian Case for OnePlus Nord 5 for the full seal, tho it is bulky. Or TUDIA DualShield Merge Series for Nord 5 which has great grip but adds weight. Dont risk the sandstone; these are way more reliable for your budget.

In my experience, the official sandstone case is great for that classic OnePlus feel but honestly... it wont do much if your phone hits a rock in the Peak District. Over the years Ive tried many slim cases that promised protection and they usually end up with a cracked screen anyway. If youre hiking, you need something with real reinforced corners. I suggest looking at the Ringke Fusion-X OnePlus Nord 5 Camo Black because it has those chunky bumpers without feeling like a literal brick. For the screen, dont mess around with cheap films. I usually go for Spigen Glas.tR AlignMaster OnePlus Nord 5 Tempered Glass because the frame makes it line up perfectly with the sensor. It might be tight on your 40 quid budget but its worth not having a smashed screen halfway up a hill. Ringke usually plays nice with Spigen glass too.
I saw your query earlier but just now found a moment to respond properly! While the official sandstone case has that classic look we all love, I honestly have to disagree with using it for a rugged trip like the Peak District. It feels fantastic in the hand, but from a technical standpoint, the impact absorption just isnt where it needs to be for rocky terrain! For a high-stakes environment like that, I am a huge fan of going with Dbrand OnePlus Nord 5 Case. Their engineering is absolutely top-notch and the precision they put into their frame designs is amazing! You should just grab any of the grip-focused options from Dbrand and you will be set. If you want something even more conservative regarding safety, I would definitely suggest looking at what OtterBox OnePlus Nord 5 Case has available. They are basically the gold standard for reliability and their multi-layer protection systems are just brilliant at dispersing kinetic energy during a fall. Its such a relief knowing your device is encased in something so sturdy! Technical specs really matter when youre outdoors. Sticking with a high-end brand like that usually solves the sensor alignment problems because they use such tight manufacturing tolerances. Go with a reputable name and you wont have to worry about the glass lifting or the fingerprint scanner acting up while youre trying to take photos on your hike tho! Safety first, right?
