Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and joined the foldable club by picking up the OnePlus Open last week. I am absolutely in love with the hardware and that massive inner display, but I’ll be honest—I’m low-key terrified of dropping it. This is by far the most expensive phone I’ve ever owned, and it feels so much more delicate than my old slab phones.
While I appreciate that OnePlus includes a basic case in the box, it doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence. It's quite thin and offers zero protection for the hinge, which seems like the most vulnerable part if it were to hit the pavement. I’ve been scouring Amazon and various tech forums, but I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the options. Some cases look like they add way too much bulk, while others look like cheap plastic that might snap the first time I try to take it off.
I’ve been specifically looking at the Spigen Tough Armor because I’ve used their stuff for years, but I’m worried it might make the phone feel like a brick in my pocket. I also saw some Nillkin cases with a sliding camera cover, which seems like a great idea given how huge that camera bump is, but I’m not sure how the fitment is around the front screen. Another thing I’m worried about is the adhesive strips many foldable cases use—do they actually stay put, or do they start sliding around after a few weeks of use? I really don't want something that’s going to leave a sticky residue on this beautiful finish.
I’m looking for something that balances solid drop protection (especially for the hinge) with a design that doesn't ruin the ergonomics of the device. Does anyone have a "holy grail" recommendation that they’ve been using for a while? I’d love to hear about your experiences with fit, grip, and whether the case interferes with the outer screen's gesture navigation. What’s the best protective case you’ve found so far for the OnePlus Open?

yo! welcome to the foldable club, honestly its the best decision ever!! i totally get the anxiety tho, i was literally shaking when i first took mine out of the box haha. for ur situation, i highkey recommend looking at the OnePlus+Open&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Poetic Spartan Case for OnePlus Open. i picked mine up for like $35 and for that price, the protection is actually insane. it covers the hinge perfectly which was a huge deal for me too. it does add a little bit of weight but its basically a tank! plus the built-in kickstand is sooo useful for watching videos on that massive inner display. i also looked at the OnePlus+Open&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Nillkin Frosted Shield Prop for OnePlus Open cuz it's usually around $25 and has that camera slider you liked, but the poetic one felt way more solid for drops. the adhesive strips on mine havent budged at all yet, so i wouldnt worry too much about that. anyway, do you have a specific budget in mind or just looking for the best value?? gl!

Before I give advice, do you use swipe gestures or the nav bar? Fitment depends on it! Unfortunately, I've had issues with hinge cases sliding because the adhesive is never as good as expected. Sooo, I totally feel ur anxiety about the OnePlus+Open+-+it&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus Open - it's basically a piece of jewelry that costs a fortune!! If ur realy worried about that hinge like I am, I would suggest looking at the OnePlus+Open&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">VRS Design Terra Guard Modern for OnePlus Open. Most cases out there skip the hinge or use cheap plastic that snaps, but this one is built like a tank... basically a fortress for ur phone. I've dropped mine on gravel once (heart literally stopped lol) and it came out without a scratch. Just be careful cuz it does add some bulk, but it feels sooo much more secure than the thin one in the box. One quick tip: make sure to clean the inner frame with alcohol before applying the adhesive strips so they actually stay put and dont slide around. It's highkey the best way to keep that finish safe from a nasty pavement hit! peace

Saw this earlier and felt the need to chime in. Im honestly so happy with the performance of this device, but the struggle to find proper protection is genuinely exhausting. Its a real concern when you realize most of these cases rely on tiny adhesive strips that inevitably lose their grip. My biggest fear is that slight movement... if the front cover shifts even a millimeter, you risk trapping grit and permanently scratching that beautiful finish. It is also incredibly worrying how many designs dont account for the actual physics of the hinge. Some of these bulkier options seem like they could actually snag or apply uneven pressure when youre unfolding the screen. For such a precise piece of hardware, that kind of mechanical stress is just a disaster waiting to happen. It feels like we are constantly choosing between total vulnerability and a case that might actually cause more harm than good in the long run. Just a huge headache overall.
