Just got my Nord 5 for work but my old chargers take forever. I saw online that some people use Anker PD blocks but then others say only the official SuperVOOC stuff actually hits the 80w speed.

Im kinda confused if third party cables even work... what are you guys using that doesnt cost a fortune?

The charging lock-in on these is a total letdown. I tried using expensive PD blocks and the speeds were just pathetic. You basically waste money on third-party gear if you want real speed. I ended up buying the <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= OnePlus+SuperVOOC+100W+Dual+Port+Power+Adapter&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus SuperVOOC 100W Dual Port Power Adapter just to be safe.

@Reply #1 - good point! Battery health is the real concern when you are messing with high-wattage tech like this. I have spent way too much money testing different bricks and it basically comes down to safety vs speed. Here is what I found works for the Nord:

  • <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= OPPO+SuperVOOC+80W+Power+Adapter&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OPPO SuperVOOC 80W Power Adapter : Since they share the tech, this is the safest way to get full speed. It hits the 80w mark and the thermal management is top tier. Downside is it is kinda chunky.
  • Anker 735 Charger GaNPrime 65W : This is my go-to backup. You wont get 80w (it defaults to 18w PD), but the safety features are better than random cheap bricks.
  • UGREEN 100W USB C Cable Braided : These are super durable and handle high current without getting warm. If you want speed, stay in the <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= Oppo+family&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Oppo family. If you just want reliability, Anker is great tho slower.

  • I definitely get the frustration with the proprietary speeds, but I actually disagree that third-party stuff is a total waste if you prioritize safety. I had a really bad experience once where a cheap gas station cable actually scorched my charging port, so now I am super picky about what I plug in. I did a deep dive into the tech because I didnt want to spend a fortune on every single spare brick for my Nord 5. Here is what I have been using for a few months now that works well:
  • <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= Oppo+80W+SuperVOOC+Flash+Charger&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Oppo 80W SuperVOOC Flash Charger
  • If you want the real 80w speed without the <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= OnePlus+markup&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus markup, this is it. Since they are basically the same company, the tech is identical under the hood. I picked one up for my desk and it performs exactly like the one that came in the box.
  • Anker 765 USB-C to USB-C Cable 140W
  • This cable is built like a tank. It wont hit the proprietary 80w speed since it lacks the extra pin for VOOC, but it is incredibly reliable for 27w PD charging. If you are like me and worry about shorts or overheating, this is a much safer bet than a random brand.
  • UGREEN Nexode Pro 65W GaN Charger
  • This is my go-to for travel. It is super compact and stays cool to the touch even when it is working hard. It does not hit the 80w max, but the safety features are top notch. If you really need that 30-minute full charge, look for the <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= Oppo+branded+stuff&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Oppo branded stuff. If you just want a reliable backup that wont fry your phone, those other two have been solid for me.

Hey there, congrats on the new phone! Honestly, the charging situation on the Nord is a bit of a headache if you dont stick to their specific tech. I was pretty worried about frying my battery with some random cheap cable when I first got mine, so I did a ton of research. Most of those Anker PD blocks are great for laptops or iPhones, but they wont give you that crazy 80w speed you're looking for because OnePlus uses a proprietary standard. I'm super satisfied with staying official just for the peace of mind. It works well. No complaints. The phone never gets scary hot like it did with my old generic stuff. Here is what I am using right now:

  • The <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= OnePlus+SuperVOOC+80W+Power+Adapter+White&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus SuperVOOC 80W Power Adapter White is the only way to actually get that 0 to 100 speed in thirty minutes or whatever.
  • I always pair it with the <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= OnePlus+Type-C+to+Type-C+Cable+100cm+6.5A&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus Type-C to Type-C Cable 100cm 6.5A because those red cables are thick enough to handle the high current safely.
  • For the car, I use the <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= OnePlus+SuperVOOC+80W+Car+Charger+Dual+Port&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus SuperVOOC 80W Car Charger Dual Port and it is honestly a lifesaver during my commute. I know it costs a bit more than the stuff you find on Amazon, but ngl, I am happy knowing I am not gonna wake up to a melted port. I have had no complaints since I made the switch to the official gear. Just makes life way easier when you dont have to worry about if it is actually fast charging or just trickling...
