Hey everyone! I just officially joined the OnePlus family and picked up the 12R in that slick Cool Blue finish. I’m absolutely loving the performance so far—the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is a beast and that display is gorgeous—but I’ve hit a bit of a crossroads when it comes to the audio experience. Since there’s no headphone jack, my old wired pairs are officially retired, and I’m looking to invest in a solid pair of wireless earbuds that really complement this specific device.

I’ve been doing a bit of research, but I’m honestly a little overwhelmed by the options. I know OnePlus has their own ecosystem, so I’ve been looking closely at the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 and the newer Buds 3. I’ve heard that staying within the brand might give me better integration features, like the LHDC codec support and super-fast pairing, which sounds great for keeping things seamless. However, I’m also a big fan of high-fidelity sound, so I’ve been eyeing the Sony WF-1000XM5s or even some Bose options for their noise cancellation.

My main priorities are low latency (I play a fair amount of Genshin Impact and CoD Mobile on this phone, so lag is a dealbreaker) and long-term comfort for daily commuting. I’m also curious if anyone has noticed a significant difference in battery drain when using non-OnePlus buds versus the native ones. My budget is flexible, roughly around $150–$220, but I’m happy to spend less if there’s a 'bang-for-your-buck' option that hits all the right notes for the 12R.

For those of you who have been using the OnePlus 12R for a while, what are you sticking in your ears? Do you find that the 'Pro' features of the OnePlus buds are worth staying in the ecosystem for, or should I branch out to a dedicated audio brand for better sound quality? I’d love to hear your personal setups and if you’ve run into any connectivity issues!

Ok so, if you want something realy reliable without the huge price tag, here's a practical tip: - Grab the Anker Soundcore Liberty 4 NC for top-tier ANC and keep firmware updated in the app for a safe, stable connection. Honestly, I think they're a total steal and I'm super satisfied with mine... no complaints! peace

Yo! Stumbled upon this yesterday and I totally get the struggle. If you’re playing competitive games on that OnePlus+12R&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus 12R, latency is your biggest enemy. Pro tip: Stick to the OnePlus+Buds+Pro+2&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus Buds Pro 2 or OnePlus+Buds+3&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus Buds 3 because they unlock the exclusive "Ultra-Low Latency" mode in OxygenOS that third-party brands just cant touch. There's a great resource at Rtings where they actually measure the exact millisecond delay for different codecs—it’s super eye-opening. Honestly, even tho Sony WF-1000XM5 or Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds sound incredible, the LHDC 5.0 integration on the native buds is what makes the experience feel so seamless. I haven't noticed any weird battery drain with my OnePlus+Buds+Pro+2&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus Buds Pro 2 either, basically cuz the optimization is baked right into the phone. If gaming is the priority, staying in the ecosystem is a total win for that lag-free feel! What's your current rank in CoD? 👍

> My main priorities are low latency (I play a fair amount of Genshin Impact and CoD Mobile on this phone, so lag is a dealbreaker) In my experience, I tried using my old non-OnePlus buds for gaming and the lag was literally unplayable in CoD. Warning: avoid third-party brands if you game a lot! They often have sync issues that the phone's native buds just dont have. Tbh, sticking with the same brand is basically the best move for battery life too. Lesson learned: the ecosystem integration actually matters for performance. gl!

Building on the earlier suggestion to stay native for the best experience, I actually think you should check out the Nothing Ear 2024 as a great alternative. I have been using them with my 12R for a bit and they are basically the perfect cousin brand since the tech heritage is so similar. You get that full LHDC support for high-res audio and the latency is low enough that I dont even notice it while playing fast-paced games.

  • The soundstage feels a bit wider than the <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= OnePlus+Buds+3&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus Buds 3 to my ears.
  • They have a really unique transparent look that matches the 12R aesthetic.
  • Battery drain has been totally fine, no weird background usage issues like I had with some older pairs. I was debating the Sony WF-1000XM5 too, but the price is just way too high for what you get, tbh. These Nothing buds hit that bang-for-your-buck sweet spot you mentioned. No complaints here, they just work well every time I pop them in... and they are super light for long commutes.

Honestly, I've had my 12R for a while and the struggle is so real... it's actually ridiculous that we even have to deal with this stuff now. Getting rid of the jack was such a scam to begin with and now we're stuck overpaying for stuff that might not even work right.

  • The prices are getting out of hand for basic features.
  • Tech companies just want us trapped in their little walled gardens.
  • Latency issues in 2024? It's literally pathetic. It drives me crazy because the phone itself is so good, but the audio industry is just exhausting to keep up with lately. You spend all this money and still have to worry if your game is gonna lag. It's honestly exhausting, tho I'm glad the phone itself works well otherwise.

In my experience, I went through this exact same headache last month after getting the 12R. Honestly, I really wanted to keep using my high-end studio buds because the audio is just better, right? But unfortunately, it was kinda a letdown: 1. The latency was actually unbearable in fast-paced games. Even with the system settings tweaked, there was a delay that messed up my timing... super frustrating.
2. My phone battery was draining way faster with third-party gear - I'm talkin' like an extra 10% drop over a single commute. 3. I was paying a premium for hardware that didn't even support the fast-pairing or specific codecs properly. I eventually swapped to the brand's mid-tier buds. It saved me roughly $60 and the ecosystem features finally worked. Basically, for the best bang-for-your-buck, you gotta stick to the native ones, lol. Good luck!
