Okay so I just got the new OnePlus 13 and honestly I am terrified. It is so pretty but man it feels like it is made of ice or something?? I keep thinking it is gonna slip right out of my hand and shatter into a million pieces on the floor and I literally just spent my whole savings on this thing so I really cannot afford to break it. I am super new to this whole flagship phone thing because I usually just have cheap hand me downs but this is my first big purchase and I am totally lost with all the accessories.
I tried looking on Amazon but there are like a thousand options and I have no idea what any of the words mean. Like what is TPU? Is that just a fancy word for plastic? And what is the difference between a bumper and a rugged case? I am so sorry if these are really basic questions but I have zero idea where to start. I saw some brands like Spigen and something called Poetic or UAG but they look so different and I dont know if they are actually good or just have good marketing.
Here is what I need:
I am going on a trip to the lake next weekend and I really need to have it protected before then so I dont drop it in the dirt or on a rock. Does anyone know which one I should buy? I'm worried if I pick the wrong one it wont actually protect it if it falls. Also do I need a separate screen protector too or does the case handle that part... I am just so confused and really dont want to ruin my new phone...
Saw your post earlier and figured I'd chime in with some technical specs. TPU basically stands for Thermoplastic Polyurethane. Its a hybrid between hard plastic and silicone, which makes it ideal for drop protection. It absorbs impact energy instead of just cracking like cheap plastic. If you want something robust but not too bulky, here are a couple of solid options:
Unfortunately, those thin TPU skins have issues with corner impact dispersion. I've seen data where they just don't absorb enough energy during a real fall. Before I recommend a tank, are you planning on actually being in the water at the lake or just nearby?
The technical breakdown on TPU was spot on. Adding a bit more to that, manufacturing tolerance is really what you are paying for here. Cheap cases often have flash lines or poor alignment with the <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= OnePlus+13+camera+array&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus 13 camera array. If you want something that actually holds up, just go with UAG. You cant really go wrong with their stuff because they focus heavily on structural geometry and corner reinforcement. Their designs usually meet or exceed MIL-STD-810G standards, which basically means they have calculated exactly how the material will flex under stress. Its definitely better than the generic shells. It keeps the profile slim enough for a pocket while ensuring the lens glass is recessed enough to avoid surface contact. Prices stay around your 40 dollar limit if you avoid their carbon fiber versions. Honestly, just picking any of their rugged options will solve the grip issue because they use high-friction composite materials.
TL;DR: Grab the <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Spigen+Liquid+Air+for+ OnePlus+13&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Spigen Liquid Air for OnePlus 13! It is absolutely amazing for grip and fits your budget perfectly! TPU is basically a fancy flexible plastic that is fantastic for shock absorption. The Spigen has this amazing textured pattern that makes the phone way less slippery. Definitely pick up a <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Caseology+Snap+Fit+Screen+Protector+for+ OnePlus+13&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Caseology Snap Fit Screen Protector for OnePlus 13 too because cases dont usually cover the screen glass itself!
