Hey everyone! I just picked up the new OnePlus Ace 5 and I'm blown away by the performance, but honestly, my thumbs are starting to cramp up using touch controls for long Genshin sessions. I’m looking for a solid gaming controller that fits the phone's dimensions comfortably. I’m specifically interested in something with a direct USB-C connection to minimize input lag, but I’m worried about whether the camera bump interferes with certain telescopic grips. Has anyone tried the Gamesir or Backbone controllers with this model yet? I want something portable that doesn't feel flimsy. What are your top-rated recommendations for a controller that works seamlessly with the Ace 5?

Sooo I actually wasted cash on a fancy grip that didn't even clear my old camera bump, super annoying!! Honestly, I had issues with expensive ones, so I’d just grab the GameSir X2 Type-C Mobile Gaming Controller for about $45. Pro tip: check 'Slickdeals' for tech discounts. It's not as good as expected quality-wise, but fits the bump fine. Don't overpay for branding, it's basically the same tech right? 👍

yo, oh man, i feel u on those hand cramps... honestly, touch controls for Genshin are basically the worst once u get into the late game lol. i've been gaming on mobile for like 5 years now and finding the right fit for these newer phones with HUGE camera bumps is always a struggle!!

Basically, the reason u want USB-C is for that zero-latency feel, right? Bluetooth just doesnt cut it for high-end action games. For your Ace 5, i'd highkey recommend the GameSir G8 Galileo Wired Mobile Gaming Controller. it's got this pivoting USB-C connector that makes fitting bulky phones SO much easier. Plus, the grips feel like a full-sized console controller - seriously, your thumbs will thank u.

Another solid pick is the Backbone One USB-C (2nd Gen) Mobile Gaming Controller. Make sure it's the 2nd Gen tho!! It has better magnetic adapters to help with that camera bump clearance. Tbh, the GameSir feels way less flimsy to me for long sessions... but yeah, both are fantastic choices. hope that helps! peace 👍

Respectfully, I'd consider another option. Over the years, I've tried many setups and honestly, I'm pretty worried about safety with those tight telescopic grips. I actually ruined a charging port once cuz the tension was sooo high on the USB-C. I dont really trust them anymore. Now I just use a regular controller with a clip... it's way safer for you're camera bump too!! Good luck.

Just found this thread today. Honestly, it's super disappointing how these companies still aren't accounting for massive camera bumps properly. I've wasted a ton of time trying to get my current setup to sit flush without stressing the USB port and it's been a total headache.

  • Basically every telescopic grip I tried felt like it was gonna snap the connector because of the weird tilt caused by the camera.
  • I finally had to take a dremel to the backplate of the one I got just to clear enough space for the lens housing to sit flat.
  • Ended up using some thick adhesive foam spacers to keep the phone level so the screen doesnt look lopsided while I'm playing. Unless you're willing to do some surgery on the plastic, most 'top rated' options just feel like they were designed for phones from years ago. Not as good as I expected for the price we're paying nowadays... pretty frustrating.

Honestly, I've had the same issue with my current setup where the camera bump on these newer phones just makes everything sit lopsided. I'm pretty cautious about my hardware, so after seeing how much pressure those rubber inserts put on the lens glass, I actually took a DIY approach. I ended up carefully shaving down the internal rubber padding on the left side of the grip I got to create a custom "recess" for the bump. It took a bit of patience and a steady hand with a hobby knife, but it made a huge difference in how the phone seats. Ngl, it's way better than just forcing it and praying the USB-C port doesn't snap under the tension. Tbh, if you’re tech-savvy, DIY-ing a fit is sometimes the only way to get that perfect "seamless" feel without risking your phone. Just be careful not to cut too deep into the actual plastic frame, iirc I almost went through on my first try lol. It's definitely a solid alternative if you find a controller you love that just needs a bit of "convincing" to fit the Ace 5.
