So I finally grabbed the Nord 5 and honestly the battery life is decent but I keep leaving my main brick at home when I head to the office. Ive been a OnePlus user since the 6T days so Im pretty familiar with how picky they are with the proprietary charging tech, usually you need the specific dash or warp cables to get those top speeds. But now with all the SuperVOOC rebranding and the Oppo merger stuff it feels way more confusing to find a third party brick that actually works without just defaulting to slow 10W charging. I tried using my old MacBook Pro charger which is like 96W but it barely moves the needle on this thing which is super annoying. Im looking for a spare one to keep at my desk in Chicago that wont break the bank.
My main constraints are:
Has anyone actually tested a specific 80W or 100W brick that plays nice with the Nord 5 specifically? I dont want to waste money on something that claims to be PD compatible but doesnt actually hit the SuperVOOC speeds...
Honestly, Im very satisfied with the Baseus 65W SuperVOOC GaN Fast Charger. It works well, stays safe, and triggers that ultra fast animation every time without any complaints.
Regarding what #1 said... i actually disagree! Third party stuff is so risky with proprietary tech and i love my phone too much to gamble. Honestly, just grab the OPPO+80W+SuperVOOC+Flash+Charge+11V+7.3A&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OPPO 80W SuperVOOC Flash Charge 11V 7.3A brick! Its the exact same tech, super safe, and way cheaper than the OnePlus+branded+version&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus branded version. Amazing value for like 25 bucks! I dont trust anything else...
No way, I literally just dealt with this yesterday. Small world.
Yo, the Nord 5 is a solid pick but the charging situation is definitely a headache. Basically, your MacBook charger fails because it uses standard Power Delivery (PD) which OnePlus caps at lower speeds. To get that specific ultra fast animation, you really need a brick that supports the SuperVOOC protocol. Most Anker or Ugreen stuff is great for Pixels but wont trigger the proprietary 80W speeds on a Nord because they dont have the licensed protocol. Heres what I found works for a desk setup:
