So I finally pulled the trigger on the Galaxy A56 5G because my old A51 was basically dying on its feet lol. The thing is I blew most of my spare cash on the actual handset and now I'm looking at my empty desk like wait... I need a case and a charger and all that. I’ve been looking around and I’m a bit stuck on what’s actually essential versus just marketing fluff. Like I saw some people online swearing by the official Samsung 25W wall plug but then I read on a forum that any PD 3.0 charger works exactly the same for half the price? My logic was to just use my old 15W brick from my A51 but then someone said it might take ages to charge or even mess with the battery health long term so now I'm kinda paranoid.

For the case, I saw the Spigen Rugged Armor which looks cool and everyone says it's the gold standard but it’s like 15 quid. Then there are these 3-packs of clear cases on Amazon for like 6 pounds and I’m wondering if they actually protect anything or if they just turn yellow in two weeks? I’m going on a hiking trip in Scotland in about ten days so I really need something that won't let the screen shatter if I drop it on a rock but I only have maybe 50 pounds total to spend on everything. That has to cover the case, a screen protector, and maybe a charger if my old one is truly junk.

Also what’s the deal with screen protectors lately? I saw these tempered glass ones that come with an alignment frame but then I read a review saying they mess with the fingerprint scanner on the A series. Is that true? Because I hate having to press my thumb down five times just to pay for a coffee. I was thinking maybe just a film one would be better but then that doesn't really help with drops. I still need to get some USB-C headphones or a dongle too since there's no jack anymore which sucks... what are you guys using for a budget setup that doesnt feel cheap?

tbh your old 15W plug wont kill the battery, itll just be really slow. I personally use the Anker 312 Charger 25W and it works perfectly for a lower price. For the hiking trip, the Spigen Rugged Armor Samsung A56 5G is a decent option because those cheap clear cases really dont protect much from rocks. Also, the JETech Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy A56 5G 2-Pack is reliable if you re-scan your thumb after applying it.

@Reply #1 - good point! Just watch for PPS protocol support. I went with the Ugreen 25W Nexode Mini GaN because it manages heat better than the basic ones. Be careful with generic plugs.

@Reply #4 - good point! honestly i'm so happy you mentioned the heat and sparking thing because that is exactly why i'm so cautious with my gear. i have the exact same problem as the op... been dealing with this internal debate for like three weeks now and still can't find a real answer that makes me feel safe. it's super frustrating trying to compare the high-end brands against the cheap ones and not knowing if you're paying for quality or just a logo. i've just been staring at my desk for days trying to figure it out and still nothing seems like a sure bet. it's been such a headache.

Tbh totally agree about PPS safety. In my experience, heat is the real battery killer.

  • Use quality cables. My cheap cord once sparked while camping in Glencoe... anyway.
