Hey everyone,

I'm already thinking about upgrading to the Samsung S25 Ultra when it (hopefully) comes out in 2025! I'm just wondering if anyone has any insight into when we might see a price drop after the initial release? I remember the S23 Ultra staying pretty pricey for a while. Do you think the S25 Ultra will be the same, or will competition from other brands like Apple or Google force Samsung to offer discounts sooner? Also, what time of year do Samsung phones usually see their first significant price reduction?

Any predictions or past experience you can share would be awesome!

I have to politely disagree that the standard sale cycles really help here, cuz honestly I'm in this exact same spot and it's been driving me nuts for months now. I've been trying to calculate the total cost of ownership including future DIY part swaps, but I still cant find any real info on when that initial price floor hits. It's so frustrating that there isnt a clear answer yet... I'm basically just as stuck as you are tho.

Honestly, everyone’s made some great points about the usual sale cycles and trade-ins. It basically comes down to timing it right with third-party shops or going the refurbished route. I’m always a bit *wary* though, especially about what was said regarding battery life on units that have been sitting around in a warehouse for months. Tbh, if you’re comfortable with a screwdriver, you should check out the Samsung Self-Repair program. Instead of stressing about professional service costs or finding a "perfect" unit, you could potentially snag a deeper discount on a used S25 Ultra later on and just DIY a new battery yourself. I’m no expert, just intermediate at best, but I’ve found that doing your own basic maintenance is way more cost-effective than paying for a tech. Just follow the official guides closely. Fragment sentences. For real savings. It’s a solid way to make a price-drop phone feel brand new again.

Hey! Totally get where you're coming from, planning phone upgrades way in advance is my kinda thing too, haha.

From my experience with the S22 Ultra, waiting for a big price drop directly from Samsung can be a loooong game. Instead, I'd suggest keeping a close eye on third-party retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, or even eBay (for certified refurbished options) a few months *after* the S25 Ultra launch. They often have deals that Samsung doesn't directly offer.

Specifically, around Black Friday (late November) or even back-to-school sales (late summer the following year) you might see some tempting discounts. Be careful though, make sure you're buying from a reputable seller to avoid any scams. Personally, I snagged my S22 Ultra for about 20% off retail price about 6 months after launch from a Best Buy sale. I would suggest keeping an eye on price tracking websites to monitor the price changes. Good luck with the upgrade planning!

Hey! Thinking ahead is smart. Instead of waiting for a general price drop, consider the certified refurbished market a few months after launch. In my experience, you can often snag a nearly-new S25 Ultra for 15-20% off the MSRP. Sites like Samsung's official refurbished store or even Amazon Renewed are good places to check. They come with warranties too, so the risk is low! I've tried many and you can save a ton!

Hey! I get the future-planning thing. Instead of focusing *only* on the S25 Ultra's price *drop*, have you considered trade-in deals? Unfortunately, Samsung's trade-in values on older phones aren't always as good as expected. I had issues with them low-balling my S21 Ultra. Look into selling your current phone *separately* on Swappa or eBay. You'll often get significantly more cash, which effectively lowers the cost of the new S25 Ultra. It might be worth the extra effort! Let me know if you want more details on those sites.

Hey! Yeah, future-proofing your tech is a good call. While everyone's chasing price drops, I might want to consider something a little different: battery health and potential safety concerns with older flagship models.

Waiting a year or two for a price drop on the S25 Ultra *could* mean buying a phone that's been sitting in a warehouse. Lithium-ion batteries degrade over time, even when unused. You might end up with a significantly reduced battery lifespan right out of the box. Be careful about where you buy from!

I would suggest checking the manufacturing date before purchasing anything that's been sitting on the shelf for a while. Maybe even factor in the cost of a potential battery replacement down the road if you're going that route. I had a bad experience with an older phone a while back – replaced the battery, and it still wasn't quite the same. Just something to keep in mind! Let me know if you want to dig into battery chemistry deets, happy to nerd out.
