Hey everyone! I just recently picked up the new Samsung Galaxy A56 5G, and while I’m absolutely loving the screen and performance, I realized I’m still using an old 15W brick from my previous phone. Since the A56 5G supports 45W super-fast charging, I really want to upgrade so I’m not waiting forever for it to top up.

I’ve been browsing online, but I’m a bit confused by all the specs. I know Samsung is picky about 'Super Fast Charging 2.0' and that the charger needs to support Programmable Power Supply (PPS) to actually hit those top speeds. I’ve looked at the official Samsung 45W adapter, but it’s a little pricey compared to brands like Anker or Ugreen. I’m also worried about heat—I don’t want to fry my battery long-term just to save twenty minutes of charging time.

Does anyone have a specific recommendation for a 45W charger that definitely triggers the 'Super Fast Charging 2.0' animation on the A56? Also, do I need a special 5A cable to make it work, or will the one that came in the box be enough? I’d love to hear what you guys are using and if you think the official Samsung one is worth the extra cash over third-party alternatives.

Yo! Congrats on the new A56 5G, that screen is seriously amazing. I've been down this rabbit hole myself because Samsung is lowkey super picky about what triggers that "Super Fast Charging 2.0" animation. Basically, if you want the full 45W, you MUST have a charger that supports PPS (Programmable Power Supply) at 5A.

For your situation, I would suggest just biting the bullet and getting the Samsung 45W USB-C Fast Charging Wall Charger (EP-T4510). I know it's a bit more expensive than some random brands, but it's guaranteed to work perfectly. I use it with my own Galaxy devices and it stays relatively cool because the PPS tech actually talks to the phone to adjust voltage in real-time. This actually *reduces* heat compared to old-school fixed voltage chargers!

If you wanna save some cash, the Anker 313 Charger (Ace, 45W) is a fantastic alternative. I've tested it and it definitely hits SFC 2.0 speeds. BUT—and this is the part most people miss—you absolutely need a 5A rated cable. The cable that comes in the box with most Samsung phones is usually only rated for 3A (which caps at 25W). So, unless you buy a kit that includes it, make sure to grab a Samsung 5A USB-C to USB-C Cable (1.8m) or an Anker 543 USB-C to USB-C Cable (140W).

Basically, if you don't see that blue charging ring and the "Super Fast Charging 2.0" text, one of those two things (charger or cable) is the bottleneck. Honestly, the official kit is worth it just to avoid the headache lol. Good luck!

For your situation, I've spent way too much time testing these things lol. Basically, Samsung's "Super Fast Charging 2.0" is a bit of a diva because it relies on the USB-PD 3.0 PPS (Programmable Power Supply) standard. This is the technical bit: most 45W chargers can do 15V or 20V, but Samsung needs high current at low voltage—specifically around 9V-11V at 4.05A. If the charger cant do that specific PPS range, youre stuck at 25W.

Regarding the heat, you're actually safer with a high-quality PPS charger. PPS lets the phone talk to the brick to adjust voltage in real-time, which reduces heat buildup in the battery. Also, you DEFINITELY need a 5A cable. The one in the box is usually only rated for 3A (60W), which caps you at 25W regardless of the brick. I'd grab a UGREEN 100W USB C to USB C Cable 6ft just to be safe.

Since the Anker 313 was already mentioned, I would suggest checking out the Ugreen Nexode 45W GaN Dual Port Wall Charger or the Spigen ArcStation Pro 45W Wall Charger. They're usually cheaper than the official Samsung one and just as reliable. Honestly, as long as it explicitly says 'PPS 4.05A' in the specs, you're golden. Just make sure the brand is reputable cuz cheap knockoffs are where the real battery risks are... hope that helps! gl with the new phone!!

1. i tried a budget brick once but it got SUPER hot and didnt hit full speeds...
2. honestly just get the Samsung 45W Power Adapter with 5A Cable (T4510) cuz peace of mind is worth it, right?

Seconding the recommendation above. I'm always super cautious about battery health, so I went with the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 45W Dual USB-C GaN Wall Charger with PPS. It stays really cool! Also, you definitely need a Samsung 5A USB-C to USB-C Cable (1.8m) to hit 45W safely. The standard cable in the box is usually only 3A, so it'll bottleneck your speed or get too hot. Better safe than sorry!

yea i totally agree with xnzrwkqnei, being able to see the wattage for yourself gives such peace of mind. i'm always super cautious with anything electrical after i tried to fix an old vintage floor lamp i found at a garage sale last summer. i thought it would be a fun diy weekend project but i ended up nearly blowing a fuse and the smell of ozone was everywhere in my living room. it reminded me of this one time my uncle tried to jumpstart his old riding lawnmower with a truck battery and basically melted the jumper cables... honestly some things are just better left to the pros or at least checked twice before you plug them in. it really makes you appreciate when stuff actually works the way it's supposed to. anyway lol sorry kinda went off topic there.

Regarding what #7 said about "Just saw this pop up and wanted to..." - honestly, it's such a headache trying to find a deal that actually works. Unfortunately, I had issues with three different budget chargers that promised Super Fast Charging 2.0 but only delivered regular speeds. It is so frustrating when you are trying to save a few bucks but end up with junk that barely works better than your old 15W brick. I actually bought a random 45W charger off an auction site once to save ten dollars, and it literally smelled like burnt plastic after five minutes. Never again. If you want that high performance without the official Samsung tax, here is what I found works:

  • The Spigen ArcStation Pro 45W GaN Wall Charger is usually much cheaper and actually triggers the blue animation. It stays way cooler than the no-name stuff I tried.
  • I also picked up a Baseus 65W GaN5 Fast Charger on sale. It is a bit overkill, but it handles the PPS protocol perfectly for the A56.
  • For the cable, skip the overpriced ones and grab a Baseus 100W USB-C to USB-C Cable 5A. It is thick and feels way safer than the flimsy one in the box. Basically, dont go too cheap or you will just end up buying twice like I did...

Ok so if you want to go the DIY route for the best charging experience, skip the expensive tech support and just get a USB power meter to verify the PPS handshake yourself. I use a MakerHawk USB C Tester to make sure my bricks are actually hitting the 45W profiles. It is SO satisfying seeing the numbers climb and knowing for sure ur getting what you paid for. Also, a few pro tips for keeping those 45W speeds stable long-term without needing a repair shop:

  • Periodically clean ur charging port with a wooden toothpick to remove pocket lint that causes heat
  • Enable the Battery Protection feature in ur settings to cap the charge at 80 percent
  • Check the cable resistance if charging suddenly slows down For the hardware, I have had great luck with the Spigen ArcStation Pro 45W Wall Charger. It handles the high current PPS requirements perfectly and runs cooler than the official brick in my experience. Just make sure you pair it with a marked 5A cable or the phone will throttle to 25W anyway! Honestly, as long as you see that blue charging ring, youre good to go.

@Reply #8 - good point! Honestly, finding a charger that isnt a total gamble is getting so hard lately. I had issues with a few off-brand ones that claimed PPS support but would only hit 45W for like two minutes before getting scary hot and throttling way down. It was super disappointing because I thought I was being smart saving money, but I just ended up with stuff that felt unsafe. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that compatible usually just means it wont explode immediately for some of these brands. Just catching up on this thread and wanted to add a couple of things that actually worked for me without the drama:

  • Spigen ArcStation Pro GaN 45W Wall Charger is really solid. It handles the PPS handshake properly for the A56 and stays way cooler than the cheap ones.
  • I also tried the Satechi 100W USB-C PD Compact GaN Charger which is definitely overkill, but since it has a higher capacity, it barely even gets warm when charging at 45W. Dont forget that the cable matters just as much as the brick. If you dont want to risk it, maybe grab a Cable Matters 100W USB-C Charging Cable because it has the E-marker chip inside to tell the phone its safe to pull more power. Better to spend a few extra bucks now than worry about frying your new phone later.

Building on the earlier suggestion, you really gotta prioritize safety because it is absolutely vital! I love that youre being so thorough. This whole thing reminds me of when my buddy tried to use a sketchy generic brick he found in a junk drawer. He was so stoked to save some cash until he smelled smoke while we were eating dinner! He ran into the kitchen and the charger was literally sizzling in the wall. Total disaster. We had to kill the main breaker just to feel safe again. Such a wild night... it was a huge ordeal and totally messed up his whole evening. Definitely stay safe out there!

Regarding what #10 said about "Building on the earlier suggestion, you really gotta..." prioritize safety, I am honestly stuck with the exact same headache right now. I have been researching 45W options for my A56 for nearly three weeks and I still cannot find a definitive answer that feels 100% safe. It is super frustrating that even when you know about the PPS and 5A requirements, finding a real-world charger that actually works as advertised without being a fire hazard feels like a total gamble. I am still searching for a solution just like you... hopefully someone can clear this up because I am tired of my phone taking forever to charge on my old 15W brick.

Just saw this pop up and wanted to chime in since i've been using Samsung stuff for years. Like someone mentioned, that 5A cable is the biggest hurdle people miss. If you use the skinny 3A cable that usually comes in the box, you'll never see those peak speeds, no matter how beefy the brick is. To recap what the others said, you basically need a few specific things:

  • A charger with USB-PD 3.0 and PPS support
  • A specific 5A rated USB-C cable with an E-marker chip
  • A brand that uses GaN tech to handle the heat I'm pretty cautious about heat too, so i usually suggest looking at the Spigen ArcStation Pro GaN 45W Wall Charger. GaN (Gallium Nitride) is way more efficient than old-school silicon, so it doesnt get nearly as hot during that initial fast-charge sprint. It's a solid, reliable alternative to the official Samsung one if you want something a bit more compact. Just a heads up tho, don't expect it to stay at 45W the whole time. The phone is designed to throttle the speed as it gets fuller to protect the battery cells. If you're really worried about longevity, make sure you don't leave it plugged in overnight at 100 percent too often... that's where the real wear happens regardless of which brick you use.
