Hey everyone! So I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, and man, this screen is absolutely incredible. However, I’ve run into a bit of a snag that I didn't fully think through before buying it. As most of you know, Samsung doesn't include the power brick in the box anymore, and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of charging options available online.

I’m currently using an old 15W charger from my S10 days, and it feels like it takes an eternity to top up this massive 5,000mAh battery. I know the S24 Ultra is capable of 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0, but I’m seeing a lot of conflicting information about which plugs actually trigger that specific speed. I really want to make sure I’m getting the most out of the phone’s hardware, especially when I only have 20 minutes to juice up before heading out for the day.

I’ve been looking at the official Samsung 45W travel adapter, but I’ve also seen some really compact GaN chargers from brands like Anker and UGREEN that look tempting. My main concern is the "PPS" (Programmable Power Supply) requirement. I’ve read that even if a charger says it's 65W or 100W, it might still only charge the Samsung at 25W if it doesn't have the right PPS protocol. Plus, there's the whole issue with the cable—do I absolutely need a specific 5A-rated USB-C to USB-C cable to hit that 45W threshold, or will the one that came in the box suffice?

I’m a bit worried about heat as well; I don't want to degrade the battery health by using a cheap third-party brick that runs too hot. I’m looking for something reliable, safe, and ideally not too bulky for travel.

For those of you who have been using the S24 Ultra for a while now, which specific charger and cable combo are you using? Does it consistently show the "Super Fast Charging 2.0" animation when you plug it in, and how long does it actually take to get you from 0 to 80%?

> You need PPS 3.0 for 45W. This^ Also wanted to add that Spigen ArcStation Pro 45W GaN Wall Charger is basically the best bang for your buck imo. I used to spend way too much on official gear, but this brick is tiny and super reliable for travel. Pair it with the Anker 333 USB-C to USB-C Cable 6ft 100W to save cash while still getting that 5A speed. Works perfectly every time! gl!

So basically the consensus is that you absolutely need PPS 3.0 and a 5A-rated cable if you want that "Super Fast Charging 2.0" magic to happen. I was in the exact same boat as you—lowkey terrified of frying my brand new S24 Ultra or wearing out the battery with a cheap brick that gets too hot. After a lot of digging, I went with a safety-first brand I trust. I've been using the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 65W Dual USB-C GaN Wall Charger with PPS and honestly, I'm so satisfied with it. It stays super cool even when it's pushing those high speeds, which makes me feel way better about long-term battery health. And you were right about the cable—the one in the box wont cut it for 45W. I paired my brick with the Anker 643 USB-C to USB-C Cable (Flow, Silicone) because it supports 100W/5A and it’s basically the softest cable I've ever used lol. It actually shows the teal "Super Fast Charging 2.0" animation every time I plug in! To sum up what's been said:
* The official Samsung 45W and the Spigen ArcStation Pro 45W GaN Wall Charger mentioned earlier are great, reliable choices.
* PPS is 100% required to hit that 45W threshold; without it, you're stuck at 25W.
* You MUST use a 5A cable (the stock one is only 3A). I usually get from like 5% to 75% in about 35 minutes... it's literally wild how fast it is compared to the old S10 days. Enjoy the new phone, it’s such a beast!! 👍

Building on the earlier suggestion, unfortunately many people ignore the actual efficiency curves and heat dissipation on these tiny bricks. I've had issues with those ultra-compact GaN chargers because they tend to have nasty voltage drops or throttle the PPS voltage once they get hot, which kinda defeats the purpose of buying a 45W plug. It's a bit disappointing how manufacturers prioritize small over stable. For a technical setup, I prefer the Shargeek Retro 67W GaN Charger because it actually has a status screen to monitor the real-time wattage. It's way more reliable than just guessing if your phone is fast charging. Pair it with a high-quality Cable Matters USB-C to USB-C 10Gbps 100W Cable to ensure you aren't losing power to resistance. Quick tip: if that charging ring doesn't turn teal, your cable is likely the bottleneck.

Honestly, if you are into the DIY side of things and like to know exactly what is going on with your hardware, I would suggest building your own charging kit rather than just grabbing whatever is at the store. I spend a lot of time testing different things to see what actually hits that 45W ceiling. I have messed around with a few setups and these are my findings:

  • Baseus 65W GaN5 Pro Desktop Charger: This is a solid choice for a DIY desk setup because it has a long power cord that lets you mount the brick wherever you want. It handles the S24 Ultra PPS requirements well, but the wattage can split if you use the other ports.
  • SHARGE Retro 67W GaN Charger: This one is great for tech nerds because it has a built-in display. It basically lets you self-service your troubleshooting by showing you exactly how many watts are going into the phone. It is super helpful to see when the phone starts throttling the speed. In my experience, getting from 0 to 80 percent takes roughly 50 minutes with these. Tbh, the most important part of the DIY approach is verifying the cable. You need one with an E-marker chip to actually hit that 5A threshold. It is a bit of a rabbit hole but it is much better than just guessing if your charger is working right tho.

Here's what I recommend: grab the Samsung 45W USB-C Fast Charging Wall Charger. It's amazing!! You *gotta* pair it with a Samsung 5A USB-C to USB-C Cable though, cuz the cable in the box is usually only 3A and won't hit Super Fast Charging 2.0. I've used this setup for years and it honestly charges so fast without the heat. It's basically the gold standard for Galaxy phones! peace

Warning: standard 65W bricks wont work! You need PPS 3.0 for 45W.
- Anker GaN: Runs cooler.
- Ugreen: Cheaper alternative.
Just make sure ur cable is 5A rated. Realy happy with my GaN setup!!
