So I finally picked up the S26 Plus and I'm kind of hitting a wall with the charging situation. I've been using Samsung flagships for years and usually just grab whatever Anker brick is lying around but this new one seems pickier? Like I tried my old 45W PD charger from my S22 Ultra days and it's barely hitting Super Fast Charging speeds according to the lock screen.
I'm looking for something that actually triggers the full SFC 2.0 or whatever they're calling it now because I need to be able to top this thing up in like 30 mins before I head out to work in the mornings.
Requirements for what I need:
Does anyone know if the official 45W Samsung brick is actually better than the third party GaN stuff lately? I've seen some stuff about the 5A cables being the bottleneck too which is super annoying. If you've found a specific combo that actually hits the max speeds without getting crazy hot let me know...
Quick reply since I literally just finished testing my new kit for a flight! I totally get the frustration because the S26 Plus is super sensitive to the exact PPS voltage steps. I spent like three hours last weekend with a USB-C power meter just to see why my old gear wasnt hitting the 45W cap properly. It is all about that 5A rating! Quick question tho... what cable are you using right now? If it is just a standard 3A cable from an older phone, it will never hit SFC 2.0 regardless of the brick. I need to know if you've got a 5A rated one before I can be 100 percent sure about the hardware combo. Anyway, I have been playing with these lately and they are amazing:
I love this thing! It is tiny compared to older bricks. It handles the specific PPS 3.3V-21V/3.25A range which is exactly what the S26 Plus needs for that 45W peak. The main port stays fast even with buds plugged into the second port, which is a total game changer for travel. It fits in my pocket way better than the Samsung brick.
This one is fantastic for the price! It hits the 45W PPS spec perfectly and usually stays way cooler than the other GaN stuff I have used. I brought this to a tech conference last month and it handled everything I threw at it. Super reliable. If you want the best travel setup for Chicago, the Ugreen is the winner. Just make sure you grab a Anker 765 USB-C to USB-C Nylon Cable 140W or another 5A cable... without that, the phone defaults to 25W no matter how good the brick is!
To add to the point above: we've covered the PPS requirements and GaN options, but just be careful about the cable rating. If it's not 5A, you won't hit SFC 2.0 anyway. I would suggest the Samsung 50W Power Adapter Duo since it's officially compatible and fits your budget. Just make sure you grab a Samsung 5A USB-C to USB-C Cable too or you'll be capped at 25W.
Honestly, Samsung is super annoying with how picky they are about the PPS (Programmable Power Supply) protocol. I've tested a dozen bricks over the years and if the PPS range isn't exactly right, the phone just defaults to standard fast charging. For the S26 Plus, you definitely need that SFC 2.0 support which requires 45W and at least 4.05A at 11V. In my experience, third-party GaN stuff is actually better than the official Samsung bricks these days because it runs way cooler and offers more flexibility. Been using the Anker 735 Charger GaNPrime 65W for months and it hits the max speeds every single time. It has three ports, so you can easily charge your buds and phone simultaneously, and it's tiny enough for a carry-on. It usually sits right around $45 on most sites. You hit the nail on the head about the cable tho. Most people dont realize the cable is the bottleneck. If you use a standard 3A cable, the phone caps at 25W regardless of the brick. You 100% need a 5A rated cable. I usually grab the Anker 543 USB-C to USB-C Cable 140W 5A Bio-Braided because it's durable and handles the high amperage without getting hot. Just make sure you plug the phone into the top port of any multi-port charger to get the full wattage priority... that's usually where the most power is routed.
