Im trying to snag some limited edition computer parts for a build I'm doing next week and I know the stock is gonna be a nightmare across different sites. I can't be at my desk all day refreshing tabs so I need something that actually works. Right now I'm torn between these two options:
Distill seems okay but I'm worried it'll slow down my Chrome too much if I track like 15 pages at once. VisualPing looks cleaner but I only have a budget of about $15 and their free tier is way too slow for a fast drop. Which one is actually better for hitting multiple marketplaces like Amazon and Newegg at the same time?
Honestly, I tried using Distill for a gpu launch last year and it was a total mess. It chewed through my RAM like crazy once I hit a dozen trackers, and unfortunately, the local monitoring is really only as good as your internet connection. VisualPing was even more of a letdown for me. Their $15 tier is basically useless for high-demand drops since the check intervals just arent fast enough to beat the bots. I had issues with Newegg's bot protection blocking Distill requests constantly too, which was super annoying when trying to stay under a budget. You end up spending way too much time solving captchas. Its frustrating when the tools are just not as good as expected for the price. I set a target price in Price Drop Catch and just forgot about it, got the alert like 3 weeks later and saved $60.
Good to know!
To add to the point above: the biggest risk you're running with Distill isnt just the memory leak, it's getting your IP blacklisted. If you set those check intervals too low to catch a drop, Newegg is gonna flag you as a bot within ten minutes. Then you wont even be able to buy the part when it actually is in stock. Honestly, for a $15 budget, you are better off looking for a dedicated inventory tracker or joining a stock alert Discord. They do the heavy lifting on their own servers so your PC doesnt die. If you're dead set on software, maybe check out TrackThis instead. Just be careful not to spam requests or you'll get hit with a captcha loop right when the parts go live. Happens to the best of us tho.
