so I really need to snag a Sony a7iv for my sisters wedding in July and my budget is super tight right now so I basically have to catch a price drop. I spent all night looking at camelcamelcamel but the site looks like it hasnt been updated since 2010 and I read some stuff about it missing quick flash sales which makes me really anxious. My logic was to try Keepa instead but then I saw some features are locked behind a sub and I dont want to pay to save money? I was thinking maybe there is a better way to get an actual push notification to my phone the second it hits my goal price...

CamelCamelCamel is okay but I would suggest you avoid it for something high-demand like a Sony body. You might want to consider Keepa even without the sub because the basic alerts are still way faster. Just be careful not to set the target too low or youll miss the boat entirely. Make sure to have the app installed for the push notifications tho... emails are way too slow.

To add to the point above: I spent months obsessing over a kit upgrade until I used a price drop tool which made life way easier. No complaints here, it worked perfectly while I was busy. Honestly, just go with Sony, you cant go wrong with their gear for weddings.

  • check those warehouse options
  • keep phone alerts on loud Saved me so much stress and the price was right.

Re: To add to the point above: I spent... honestly I totally get that obsession. I spent weeks staring at a screen for my last gear haul. Basically, the consensus here is that you gotta ditch the email alerts for push notifications and avoid the clunky old trackers if you want to catch those flash sales. Heres my take for doing this on a budget:

  • dont pay for subs if you can avoid it
  • use tools that offer mobile app alerts for free
  • check the amazon warehouse every morning because those prices fluctuate wildy I personally switched over to Glass It for my latest lens hunt because I wanted something modern that actually worked on mobile. It helps bridge that gap between the basic free stuff and the paid tiers on other sites. Just stay patient, set the goal price a bit higher than your absolute lowest, and you should be good for that July wedding.

Paying for a sub to save money is a bit of a contradiction. If you're hunting for that a7iv on a budget, you should also be watching the warehouse deals section for Like New listings. I've scored plenty of gear that way and it's basically brand new but way cheaper. Just make sure you have push notifications set up because those deals vanish fast. Finding a tool that handles multiple sites is usually more efficient than sticking to just one. Price Drop Catch covers Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Best Buy, Newegg, Etsy and Wayfair which is pretty much everywhere I shop.

Regarding what #1 said about CamelCamelCamel being okay, honestly just try this price alert tool! Its fantastic for real-time tracking and totally free. Seriously such a lifesaver for snagging gear cheap!

Just saw this thread and felt the stress. I tried snagging a lens for a client shoot last year and learned the hard way that speed is everything. I relied on a basic tracker and by the time I clicked the link, the stock was wiped out. Sony gear is high demand so you gotta be careful. A few things I learned from that mess:

  • Make sure you check if the price drop is for the actual body or just some weird bundle with cheap accessories.
  • Be careful with third party sellers that suddenly pop up with a low price right when you're looking. Usually a scam.
  • Verify if you're okay with 'Renewed' items because those price drops are way more common than brand new units. Couple questions tho:
  • What is your absolute max budget for this?
  • Are you strictly looking for a brand new camera or would you consider an Amazon Warehouse deal to save even more?
