Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.

I totally agree that getting a specialized fit is way better than a generic one-size-fits-all thing. But honestly, as someone who always does my own car tech installs, I’d be really careful about where you actually attach it in a newer Civic. Those vent fins are surprisingly fragile and if your not careful during a DIY setup, you can snap 'em pretty easily. Plus, since the 17 Air is basically the thinnest phone they've made, I'd stay away from those super tight spring-loaded grips. If the tension is too high, it might put weird pressure on the frame or the screen (at least thats my worry with the thinner models). Basically, just make sure your self-service install doesn't block any of the main air vents or scratch the dash trim because those things are a huge pain to replace if you mess up! Definitely take your time with the placement.

Honestly, with the 17 Air, you really need to look at thermal performance more than just physical grip. Because that chassis is so thin, it dissipates heat differently than the bulkier models, especially when youre running GPS and charging simultaneously. I have benchmarked a few setups and found that many generic chargers will cause the phone to dim the screen within fifteen minutes of use due to heat soak. For a 2023 Civic, I recommend looking for a mount that uses N52 neodymium magnets. They offer the best weight-to-pull ratio, which is perfect for the light profile of the 17 Air. Based on my stress tests for high-G cornering and road vibration, these are the ones that actually meet performance standards:

  • Belkin BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Wireless Car Charger
  • Spigen OneTap Pro 3 The Belkin is basically the gold standard for thermal regulation in this price bracket (at least that is what my testing shows). If you dont need charging, the Spigen uses a swing-arm design that keeps the phone away from the dash surface to allow for better airflow. Just make sure you clean the mounting area with 70 percent isopropyl first to ensure the adhesive bond holds up when the cabin gets hot. Tbh, the thinner the phone, the more you need to worry about stability and heat management.

Yep been there done that. Can confirm everything said above is spot on.

Hey! I've tried many. For my 2018 Civic, ProClip mounts have been rock solid for years. Pricey at $60, but worth it. Zero wobble, perfect fit.

Consider MagSafe-compatible mounts. Qi2 standard improves charging; ESR's work well, no complaints.

Before buying a fancy mount, have you tried a cheap friction dash mat? They're like $10 on Amazon. Works surprisingly well for lighter phones, and saves you money if it works!

Unfortunately, RAM mounts can be pricey, but research ProClip; better reviews, safer. Worth the extra $.
