I just ordered the new iPhone 16 Pro Max and honestly im kinda panicking about how big and expensive it is. This is my first time getting the Pro Max version and i have no idea how to keep it safe. I went to look at cases online and there are like thousands of options and words i dont understand like TPU and military grade and magsafe... i dont even know if i need those? I just want the thing to not break if it falls out of my pocket.

Im pretty clumsy so i really need something that wont slide out of my hand but i also dont want it to look like a giant brick. My budget is probably around 60 or 70 dollars for both the case and the screen thingy if thats even possible. It needs to get here by Friday because thats when the phone arrives and i dont want to touch it until it has protection on it.

Here is what i think i need:

  • something with a good grip so i dont drop it
  • a screen protector that isnt too hard to put on because im bad at that stuff
  • something that protects the cameras on the back because they look so big
  • maybe not too thick?

Sorry if these are really basic questions i just dont want to waste money on something that wont actually work. Are the ones from the apple store worth it or should i look at amazon? I saw some brands like spigen and otterbox but i dont know which one is better for a total beginner who just wants their phone to survive a fall on the kitchen floor...

In my experience, the Pro Max size is a total beast to hold, so you're right to worry about the grip. I've tested dozens of setups over the years and honestly the ones at the Apple store are way overpriced for what you get. For your budget, I'd definitely look at Spigen on Amazon because they strike the best balance between price and protection.

  • iPhone+16+Pro+Max+Matte+Black&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Spigen Liquid Air for iPhone 16 Pro Max Matte Black is my top pick for grip. It has a geometric texture on the back that keeps it from sliding and it's thin enough that it wont feel like a brick.
  • iPhone+16+Pro+Max&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit Screen Protector for iPhone 16 Pro Max is basically foolproof. It comes with a plastic auto-alignment tray so you wont mess up the application or get bubbles. Both of these have raised lips to keep those huge cameras safe from scratches. You'll probably spend about 40 bucks total for the pair, which leaves you some extra cash and ensures it arrives by Friday. Let me know if you need help with the install process when it gets there!

Ngl the Pro Max is a major slip hazard. You might want to consider the iPhone+16+Pro+Max&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Speck Presidio2 Grip for iPhone 16 Pro Max because those rubber ridges are life-savers. Also, be careful with cheap glass; the iPhone+16+Pro+Max&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">amFilm OneTouch Glass Screen Protector for iPhone 16 Pro Max has a dummy-proof alignment frame. Quick tips:

  • Install your protector in a steamy bathroom to avoid dust.
  • Make sure the case edges are higher than the camera lenses. Apple cases are way too slippery imo.

Saw this earlier but just now responding. Be really careful with generic silicone because the friction coefficient changes when hands get sweaty. The iPhone+16+Pro+Max&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Caudabe Sheath for iPhone 16 Pro Max has way better grip and camera protection than the iPhone+16+Pro+Max&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OtterBox Symmetry Series for iPhone 16 Pro Max thanks to its textured polymer. A cheap case once caused me to shatter a screen. Use the iPhone+16+Pro+Max&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">ESR Armorite Screen Protector for iPhone 16 Pro Max for its 110lb force rating.

Looking at what the others said, you've got solid picks like the Sheath or Liquid Air already on the table. Both focus on texture. If you're still worried about the size, you should check these out too:

This thing is basically made of a sandpaper-like material on the sides. Its arguably the grippiest case out there and has a massive raised lip for the cameras. It adds a tiny bit of width to an already huge phone tho.

  • iPhone+16+Pro+Max&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Torras Magnetic Guardian for iPhone 16 Pro Max

This one is more of a middle ground. It's got a nice matte finish that isnt slippery and the magnets are super strong. It survives kitchen floor drops fine without being a brick. For the screen, get the iPhone+16+Pro+Max&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">amFilm OneTouch Glass Screen Protector for iPhone 16 Pro Max. The alignment jig makes it impossible to mess up the install. You can get both the Torras and the amFilm for about 50 bucks total, so you're well under budget for Friday.
