So I finally saved up for the new 16 Pro Max because my old one died and I wanted good photos for my kids soccer games. But now it's here I'm actually kinda scared to touch it because it looks so fragile and cost a fortune.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I keep hearing about MagSafe and special chargers and I honestly dont know if the box has everything I need or if I have to buy extra stuff to keep it safe. Im on a really tight budget now after buying the phone itself. What are the absolute must-have accessories I need to get first so I dont mess this thing up?

> I'm actually kinda scared to touch it because it looks so fragile I totally felt that. I remember when I dropped my last phone on concrete right after getting it... the repair cost was basically half a new phone. Since you're tight on cash, maybe look at the <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Spigen+Liquid+Air+Case+ iPhone+16+Pro+Max&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Spigen Liquid Air Case iPhone 16 Pro Max. Its affordable and has a solid lip. Just be careful with the camera lenses tho, they're huge and easy to scratch.

Box only has a cable. Youll need a charger and protection tho. These are decent options.

@Reply #2 - good point! honestly it's pretty frustrating that apple leaves out the essentials now. I'm actually in the same boat... just got my 16 pro max and i'm literally afraid to take it out of the house until my gear arrives. over the years, i've handled plenty of these, and the pro max always feels the most vulnerable because of that extra weight. in my experience, one unlucky drop on a hard surface is all it takes to ruin your day. since safety and long-term reliability are the main goals here, i had two quick questions to help clarify things:

  • are you primarily concerned about high-impact drops during your kids games, or is basic scratch protection more of a priority?
  • do you currently own any old charging bricks from a tablet or laptop that might work? knowing this would help me give more structured advice on how to protect it.

Tbh I felt the exact same way when I upgraded a few years back. I was terrified of even putting it on the table without a cloth. I remember one time I was at a park and my phone just slid right off the bench... I literally froze. Luckily I had already slapped on a screen protector and a decent case before I even left the house. That saved me hundreds of dollars in repairs right there. Honestly, I have been super happy with just keeping it simple lately. My current setup is basically just a sturdy case and a tempered glass layer. It works well and I have zero complaints about durability now. You really dont need all the fancy MagSafe stuff immediately if youre on a budget. Just get the physical protection first and youll feel way better about using it. I am totally satisfied with that approach.

> What are the absolute must-have accessories I need to get first so I dont mess this thing up? Like someone mentioned, you really just need a power block and a case — though I’ve heard some people say the big third-party brands actually handle drops better than the official Apple ones, but I’m not 100% sure if that’s still true for this year's model. I think those third-party chargers might even run a bit cooler than the official ones — wait, no, maybe it's just that they're cheaper — but either way, just stay away from the ultra-cheap generic stuff if you want the battery to last.
