So, I finally pulled the trigger and upgraded to the iPhone 16 Pro Max in Desert Titanium! Coming from an older iPhone 12, the size difference is definitely noticeable, and I’m a bit nervous about carrying this massive glass slab around without some solid protection. Since the 16 series introduced that new Camera Control button on the side, I’ve realized I can't just buy any random case—I need something specifically designed for this new layout to ensure I can actually use the touch gestures and sliding functions comfortably.

I’ve been scouring YouTube and various tech sites, but the sheer volume of options is overwhelming. I really want a case that offers great drop protection but doesn't turn the phone into a total brick in my pocket. I’m especially curious if anyone has found cases that have a dedicated sapphire crystal cover for the Camera Control button, or if a simple cutout is better for accessibility. I've heard some cheap cases make it really awkward to swipe on that sensor.

Beyond just protection, I’m looking to fully embrace the MagSafe ecosystem this time around. I do a lot of mobile photography and frequent traveling, so I’m wondering if a MagSafe power bank or a specific magnetic wallet-stand combo is worth the investment for a phone this large. Also, with the 16 Pro Max supporting faster charging speeds, are there specific GaN chargers you’d recommend to actually get those peak speeds without overheating the device? I really want to make the most of that faster wired and wireless charging capability.

I’m trying to avoid buying a bunch of cheap junk and instead want to focus on high-quality, "buy it once" kind of gear that complements the premium feel of the phone. For those of you who have already decked out your new devices or have been doing deep-dive research, what are your absolute must-have accessories for the iPhone 16 Pro Max? Are there any specific brands that have totally nailed the new button design or any must-have photography add-ons I should check out?

Seconding the recommendation above! Ngl, I'm super paranoid about safety.

- Beats vs Cheapies: Pick the iPhone+16+Pro+Max+Case+with+MagSafe&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Beats iPhone 16 Pro Max Case with MagSafe because it covers the button with sapphire. Cutouts feel unsafe imo. Idk if they're even worth the risk??
- Belkin vs Random GaN: The Belkin BoostCharge Pro 65W GaN Dual USB-C Wall Charger is way safer.

I had issues with cheap ones overheating, so don't risk it!!

Yo! Congrats on the upgrade, Desert Titanium is lowkey the best color this year. I've been doing a deep dive since launch cuz I'm also super picky about my gear.

For the Camera Control button, you basically have two paths. Option A is the iPhone+16+Pro+Max+Silicone+Case+with+MagSafe&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max Silicone Case with MagSafe or the iPhone+16+Pro+Max+Case+with+MagSafe&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Beats iPhone 16 Pro Max Case with MagSafe. These are honestly the ONLY ones right now with that integrated conductive sapphire crystal cover. It feels way more premium than a hole in the side!! Option B is something like the iPhone+16+Pro+Max&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Spigen Ultra Hybrid T (MagFit) for iPhone 16 Pro Max which uses a specialized conductive layer instead of a basic cutout. Standard cutouts are fine, but they make swiping feel kinda clunky IMO.

For charging, since the 16 Pro Max hits those higher peak speeds, definitely grab the Anker 735 Charger (GaNPrime 65W). It's basically the gold standard for "buy it once" tech—tiny, powerful, and wont overheat. For MagSafe travel, the Anker MagGo Power Bank (10K) with Qi2 is a total beast for faster wireless charging. Also, check out the ESR Magnetic Wallet (HaloLock)—it's a wallet and a stand in one, and the magnets are insanely strong for a phone this heavy.

Seriously, dont waste money on cheap junk. Stick to these brands and you'll be set for years. GL with the new slab! 👍

^ This. Also, while those sapphire button covers look premium, I am gonna play devils advocate. In my experience, a simple cutout often provides better tactile feedback for that Camera Control sensor. Integrated covers can sometimes feel a bit mushy or less responsive, which is frustrating when you're trying to nail a shot. I think we need a bit more info to give solid advice:

  • Are you looking for a setup that works with pro-level tripod mounts, or just something for quick handheld shots while you're traveling?
  • For the power bank, do you need a full 0 to 100 charge, or is a slim emergency boost battery enough to get you through the day? Knowing those details will help determine if the high-end stuff is actually worth it or if a more cost-effective setup is more reliable. Honestly, you dont want to overspend on bulk you wont actually use.
