Hey everyone! I recently upgraded to the iPhone 14 Pro, and while I’m absolutely loving the ProMotion display and the camera, I’ve noticed that the battery really takes a hit when I’m out all day taking photos or using GPS. I have an older power bank from a few years ago, but it feels like it takes an eternity to charge this thing—sometimes I’m plugged in for an hour and only see a 20% jump.
I’ve been doing some research, and I know the iPhone 14 Pro supports faster charging speeds, but I’m honestly a bit confused by all the different specs out there. Some chargers mention PD 3.0, others talk about 'PPS' or 20W vs 30W outputs, and I’m not sure what actually translates to the fastest real-world charging for this specific model. I’m looking for something truly portable that I can toss in my jacket pocket or a small bag, so I’m not really looking for those massive bricks that weigh a pound.
Ideally, I want something that can get me from 0% to 50% in about 30 minutes, which I think is the max the phone can handle? I’m also curious if I need a specific type of USB-C to Lightning cable to actually hit those top speeds, or if any MFi-certified cable will do the trick. My budget is around $50-$80, but I’m willing to pay a bit more if it means I’m getting the absolute quickest charge possible without damaging the battery health.
Has anyone found a specific brand or model that works perfectly for the 14 Pro? I’d love to hear about your actual charging times and if the power bank stays relatively cool while working its magic. What is the absolute fastest portable power bank you’ve used for the iPhone 14 Pro?
Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, I used to carry a huge power bank but it was such a hassle. For the iPhone+14+Pro&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">iPhone 14 Pro, hitting that 27W peak is key, but you gotta watch the budget.
I've been using the Anker 533 Power Bank PowerCore 30W 10000mAh lately. It's tiny, fits in my jacket, and actually hits that 30W PD speed. If you want something even sleeker tho, the Baseus Adaman2 30W 10000mAh Power Bank is a solid budget alternative. Both get me to 50% in roughly 30 mins, but be careful... they can get a bit warm if you're using GPS while charging!
TL;DR: Go for a 30W PD bank like the Anker 533 or Baseus Adaman2 to max out your 14 Pro's speed without breaking the bank. 👍
Story time: I actually went through this exact same headache last year with my 14 Pro, and it was honestly such a letdown at first. I bought a few cheap "fast" chargers from Amazon that promised 30W but they ended up overheating like crazy and then throttled the speed down to a crawl... seriously frustrating when you're tryna get that 0-50% boost! I got really worried about my battery health because the phone would get sooo hot to the touch. Eventually, I realized that safety features are lowkey just as important as the speed. I finally settled on the Satechi Quatro Wireless Power Bank 10000mAh for my travel kit and more recently the Shargeek Storm2 Slim 130W 20000mAh Portable Power Bank when I need to see the actual wattage on the screen.
Quick tip: Stick to a high-quality Apple USB-C to Lightning Cable (1m) to ensure you're actually getting that PD handshake. Also, look for banks with "ActiveShield" or similar thermal monitoring so you dont fry your battery! gl!
Sooo basically, the iPhone 14 Pro caps out at around 27W for charging, even though Apple says 20W is enough for the 0-50% in 30 mins thing. Over the years, I've tried many chargers and honestly, the key is finding a bank with at least a 30W USB-C PD output to hit that max speed. You also gotta use a USB-C to Lightning cable; a standard USB-A one wont ever cut it. Any MFi cable is fine tho, you dont need the Apple brand one specifically.
In my experience, the Anker 511 Power Bank (PowerCore Fusion 5K) is great for a pocket, but if you want the absolute fastest juice, I recommend the Anker 733 Power Bank (GaNPrime PowerCore 65W). I've used it for a year now and it literally charges my 14 Pro at the fastest possible rate without getting crazy hot. It is a bit pricey, but the build quality is solid and it doubles as a wall charger too which is kinda nice for travel. gl!
I went through this last year. I was SO obsessed with hitting that 27W peak on my 14 Pro! Honestly, I learned that a power bank supporting PD 3.0 is a total game-changer. My old one was basically a brick, but the 30W setup I use now hits that 50% mark in 25 mins easily. Plus, staying cool is key to protecting ur battery health long-term! It’s been a total lifesaver for all-day shoots.
Just jumping in because I have spent way too much time comparing different brands lately. You gotta be careful because some brands prioritize a slim look over heat management, and heat is honestly the enemy for your battery health. If the bank gets too hot, itll just throttle the charging speed and you wont actually hit that fast 0-50% goal anyway. I wanted to ask though, are you specifically looking for a wired connection to get that max 27W speed, or were you hoping for something magnetic? Also, does it need to be super slim for a pocket, or is a slightly thicker build okay if it stays cooler during the charge? Knowing that makes a big difference in which brand I would suggest.
Just catching up on this thread and ngl it makes me so mad how much of a headache this has become for all of us. I have been an Apple user for years and it feels like we are just being milked at this point. I remember when you didnt need a PhD in electrical engineering just to buy a power bank that actually works. It is such a scam that these companies throw around terms like PD and PPS just to justify charging eighty bucks for a plastic brick.
