So I finally upgraded to the iPhone 14 Pro last week after rocking an 11 for years and I realized I dont actually have a brick that can handle the faster speeds. My old ones are all those tiny 5W squares that take forever. I've been looking at a few options but I'm kinda stuck between the Anker Nano 3 30W and the official Apple 20W one. I heard the 14 Pro can actually pull closer to 27W so I feel like the Apple one might be leaving some speed on the table? But then I also saw this Ugreen Nexode 30W thing that looks pretty solid.
Here is what I am looking for:
I'm leaning toward the Anker just because its so small but I've had some third party chargers die on me before and I really dont want to fry my new battery. Is the extra 7-10W from a 30W charger actually noticeable in real life or should I just stick with the 'safe' Apple brand one? Any thoughts on which one is more reliable for the long haul...
In my experience, safety beats speed.
> Is the extra 7-10W from a 30W charger actually noticeable in real life Building on the earlier suggestion, you'll definitely notice that extra speed during the first 30 minutes of charging. I've been very satisfied with the Spigen ArcStation Pro 30W GaN Wall Charger for a while now. It uses GaN II tech which technically is just better at heat dissipation and efficiency... basically it keeps everything safe while you sleep and won't stress the internal components. It fits your budget perfectly since its usually under 25 bucks. Since you're heading to Chicago soon, you might also look at the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 30W GaN Wall Charger too. It is super compact and reliable for travel. Just a practical tip tho, make sure your cable is also rated for fast charging or the brick wont be able to do its job properly. Let me know if you want the technical breakdown on the power delivery protocols.
Noted!
To add to the point above: it's honestly disappointing that Apple still markets that 20W brick as the standard when the 14 Pro is built for more. You are definitely leaving speed on the table with the official one. I have had issues with the smaller 20W units getting surprisingly hot because they are constantly maxed out trying to keep up with the phone.
Forget the 20W brick, its way too slow for your new phone! Youre totally right that the 14 Pro pulls 27W, so a 30W charger is literally the sweet spot. GaN technology is a total game changer for thermals... stays super cool.
