I am honestly so hyped about this Pixel 9 Pro Fold its like the coolest piece of tech Ive ever owned but the screen protector struggle is real and im losing my mind. My logic was that I should just grab a multi-pack from Amazon while waiting for the expensive ones to ship but that was such a huge mistake. I already went through three of them in less than a week.
Its so frustrating because I use this for work all day here in rainy Seattle and I need to know the screen isnt gonna get trashed if a piece of dust gets in there. I spent nearly two grand on this thing and I cant even find a decent piece of plastic to protect it. I was thinking about maybe trying a matte one to hide the fingerprints too but I dont know if those are even worse for the crease. Does anyone have a lead on something truly durable that wont lift after a few folds? Im looking for something I can get delivered within the next few days because I am terrified to keep using it naked like this...
Like someone mentioned, budget films seem fine, but id be careful. Cheap adhesive eventually bubbles and traps grit, which basically acts like sandpaper inside.
I've been using foldables since the first generation and honestly, you don't have to drop a fortune to get amazing results! I totally understand the struggle with those low-quality packs, but some budget-friendly brands are actually fantastic if you know what to look for. Here is a methodical approach to keeping that screen safe without overspending:
^ This. Also, I would suggest being pretty careful about going the matte route on a foldable. I think I heard somewhere that those matte textures can actually create more friction right at the crease when you're opening and closing it. Not totally sure if that applies to the newer Pixel 9 Pro Fold screens specifically, but I recall some folks mentioning it with earlier foldables. The fingerprint thing is annoying for sure, but you might want to consider if the trade-off in durability is worth it. Make sure to look for something that mentions self-healing properties too... I think those tend to handle the folding action a lot better than the standard plastic ones. It is a super expensive device so I totally get the anxiety, just be cautious with anything that feels too thick or textured on that inner display. Hope you find one that actually sticks tho.
Over the years Ive tried many, but for foldables, Id stick with these:
