I just got the new Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold because the screen looked amazing but honestly I'm a bit overwhelmed and have no idea where to start lol. I'm going to Tokyo in October and I'm really nervous about taking it on a long trip because it feels so fragile compared to my old phone.
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I dont really know how these foldable things work with chargers or if I need special cases that wont mess up the hinge. My budget is around $150 for extras. What are the actual must-have travel accessories I should get so I dont break it or run out of battery in Japan?
Dude you are going to have the absolute best time in Tokyo with that screen! Seriously, using Google Maps on the big inner display while navigating Shinjuku station is a total game changer. I was super paranoid about mine at first too, but you just gotta gear up right. Use a case with hinge protection because thats the most vulnerable spot for dust and drops.
Just saw this. Ive used foldables for years and honestly the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is quite sturdy... Quick question tho, do you prefer wireless charging or fast wired connections for your layovers? Items I am very satisfied with:
To add to the point above: looks like we are covering cases and power. I used mine in Kyoto recently and unfolding that screen to translate tricky menus was just amazing, literally a total lifesaver!
Exactly what I was thinking
TL;DR: It is a total joke that we have to spend hundreds extra on gear for an already overpriced phone. Honestly it drives me crazy how Google and Samsung charge nearly two grand for a device then leave us hanging on the durability front. I have used every foldable since the original Galaxy Fold and the accessory tax is a complete scam at this point. You buy the most expensive phone on the market and then have to drop another $150 just so it doesnt shatter if you look at it wrong... its ridiculous. Comparing the Pixel to the Chinese foldables or even Samsung, the Google accessory ecosystem feels like a massive cash grab for basic protection. Before I give my two cents on what to actually buy tho... are you planning on being in super crowded spots like Shibuya Crossing mostly or more chill areas? Fragile means different things if you are getting bumped by a thousand people every few minutes versus just sitting in a quiet cafe.
