I'm honestly so fed up with these cheap screen protectors i keep seeing all over the place. I just got my Pixel 8a last week here in Chicago and i was so excited to finally upgrade from my old cracked 4a but this is turning into a total headache. I bought this random 3-pack from a brand i never heard of on Amazon because it had decent reviews but oh my god they are terrible.

The first one I put on had these massive air bubbles that just wouldnt go away no matter how much I used that little squeegee thing and then the second one I tried literally started peeling at the corners after like four hours of just sitting on my desk. Its driving me crazy because I'm super anxious about scratching the screen since I spent a lot of my savings on this phone and I really cant afford a screen repair right now. Plus the fingerprint sensor is basically useless now. I have to press my thumb down so hard I feel like I'm gonna break the display and even then it only works maybe half the time which is so frustrating when I'm just trying to quickly pay for my coffee or check my bus schedule.

Im going on a trip to visit family in Florida next Tuesday and I really need to get a high quality one installed before I leave because I know I'll be taking a ton of photos and probably tossing the phone in my bag with my keys and stuff. I dont mind spending a bit more money maybe up to 30 dollars if it means I get something that actually fits and doesnt ruin the touch sensitivity or the biometrics. I heard some people talk about tempered glass vs film but I honestly dont know whats better for the 8a specifically given the screen shape and the way the edges are.

Does anyone have a specific brand they swear by that actually stays on and works with the fingerprint scanner without having to re-register my prints every single day? I just want something that feels like the actual screen and doesn't have that weird gap around the edges...

I'm always tossing my phone in my bag with my keys, so I was really nervous about the screen. I finally went with the amFilm OneTouch Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Google Pixel 8a and I'm honestly so satisfied. It went on perfectly with no bubbles and the fingerprint scanner has zero issues. It feels just as smooth as the native glass, which was my biggest worry.

Late to the thread but I had the same worries when I got my 8a. Im pretty cautious with my tech and really didnt want to risk a cracked screen. I ended up buying the ZAGG InvisibleShield Glass Elite for Google Pixel 8a and I've been really satisfied with it so far. It costs a bit more than those random 3-packs, usually around 30 dollars, but the quality is night and day. No bubbles at all because the alignment tray it comes with is basically foolproof. Honestly it feels just like the original glass. I havent had any issues with the fingerprint scanner failing me when Im out and about, which was my biggest concern. Just make sure you clean the screen really well with the included wipes before you drop the glass on to avoid dust. Its definitely worth the extra few bucks for the peace of mind if you ask me.

Regarding what #1 said about the 8a being really picky, theyre 100% right. Most cheap glass is way too thick for the sensor. I would suggest looking at Whitestone Dome Glass Screen Protector for Pixel 8a. It uses liquid UV adhesive which is way better for biometric response than standard dry packs. Just be careful tho and make sure to tape off your earpiece before pouring the glue... you dont want that mess in your speaker.

In my experience, the 8a is really picky about glass thickness. Ive tried a ton of brands over the years and the Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit Screen Protector for Pixel 8a is the gold standard for maintaining sensor sensitivity.

  • Turn on Screen protector mode in your display settings immediately.
  • Re-register your fingerprints after the install. The alignment tray makes it impossible to mess up the install so you wont get bubbles.
