So I finally upgraded to the Pixel 8 Pro last month and honestly I am so fed up with the wireless charging situation right now. I spent a ton of money on this phone and my old Anker pad that worked fine for my last phone just... doesnt. It either gets super hot and stops charging at like 40% or it takes literally five hours to get a full charge which is useless for me because I need to grab it and go for work in the morning. I am in Chicago and it gets cold so maybe the heat is weird? I dont know. I tried using my wife's old Samsung stand too and it kept blinking red at me like it was broken or something. I even tried taking my case off but it still barely charges.

Im just really frustrated because I want to actually use the features I paid for without having to plug in a cable every single night like its 2015. I have about 60 or 70 bucks to spend on a new one but I dont want to waste more money on something that wont actually fast charge this specific phone. Ive heard some only do 5w if it isnt the official stand and that sounds miserable. Does anyone actually have a setup that works consistently and doesnt cook the battery? Which wireless chargers work best with the Google Pixel 8 Pro?

^ This. Also, we've touched on the official stands and Spigen pads, but unfortunately, those still felt like fire hazards to me. I once woke up to my phone being scorching hot. I eventually swapped to the Iniu 15W Wireless Charging Stand and it is way more reliable. It isnt as fast as the Google one, but at least it wont cook your battery while you sleep.

Honestly, I've been using Pixels since the early days, and Google's proprietary charging tech is a total pain in the neck if you dont have the right gear. Most third-party pads wont give you more than 5W or maybe 12W at most because Google uses their own handshake for the faster speeds. If you want that full 23W and actually want to see that battery percentage move before you head out for work in Chicago, you really only have a couple of solid options within that 70 buck budget. In my experience, Pixels are super sensitive to heat. This explains why your Anker is failing... the phone just throttles itself to death to stay cool. I've tried many setups over the years and these are the only ones that dont make me want to throw my phone across the room:

  • Google Pixel Stand 2nd Gen 23W is really the gold standard here. It has a built-in cooling fan that kicks on when the phone gets warm, which is crucial. Since it is the official one, it bypasses the 12W limit other chargers have and hits the max speed for the Pro.
  • If you want a secondary option for a desk, the iOttie iON Wireless Duo 15W is decent. It wont hit the full 23W, but it supports the EPP standard so it is much faster than a generic pad.
  • Make sure you are using a beefy brick too, like the Google 30W USB-C Power Adapter, or the stand wont get enough juice to fast charge anyway. Basically, if you go with the 2nd Gen stand, those heat issues usually disappear because of that fan. Feel free to ask if you run into setup issues tho!

Building on the earlier suggestion, I disagree that those chargers are safe.

  • I am happy with the phone, but I've had identical heat issues for weeks.
  • It's honestly frustrating that expensive chargers fail.
