So I finally pulled the trigger on the Pixel 8a after my old phone's screen decided to quit life last week. Loving the phone so far but my ancient wired earbuds are obviously useless now without a dongle and I figure it's time to actually join the wireless world. I've got a budget of maybe $150 max and I'm really trying to find something that wont give me connection headaches since I've heard some brands are finicky with Android.
I'm mostly looking at the Pixel Buds Pro because everyone says the integration is seamless like with the fast pair and being able to change settings right in the bluetooth menu. Plus they're on sale right now. But then I saw the Sony LinkBuds S are also in my price range and people rave about the comfort and the noise cancelling. I take the bus for forty minutes every morning in a pretty loud city so being able to actually hear my podcasts over the traffic is a huge deal for me.
I'm kinda leaning toward the Pixel Buds just for the ecosystem factor but I'm worried they might be too bulky for my ears compared to the Sonys which look way smaller. Has anyone used both with an 8a specifically? Is the Google integration actually worth picking them over the Sony sound quality or should I even be looking at something else like the Jabra Elite series before I buy them this weekend...
I have gone through so many pairs over the years and I really have to say, go for the Google Pixel Buds Pro ANC Bluetooth! The integration with the Pixel 8a is absolutely amazing because you dont even need a separate app to manage your settings. Its all right there in the system menu. I used to have connection drops with other brands but these have been rock solid for me! Regarding the bus noise... the ANC on these is fantastic at blocking out those low rumbles. I actually find the fit pretty comfy once you do the ear tip seal test in the settings. If you are really worried about the size tho, the Sony LinkBuds S Noise Canceling Earbuds are definitely lighter and smaller. But you lose that seamless Find My Device integration that works so well on the 8a. Honestly, the Google ones just feel like they were made for your phone!
^ This. Also, safety and reliable hardware are crucial.
^ This. Also, I've tried many sets over the years and honestly the Jabra Elite 4 Active In-Ear Bluetooth Earbuds are the sleeper hit here. Theyre way under your 150 budget but the physical buttons are so much better than finicky touch controls when youre on a bumpy bus... In my experience, the ANC is plenty for blocking out traffic and theyre super light compared to those bulky Pixel ones.
