Regarding what #2 said about "Just check Amazon. They usually have some great...", that is where I find the best prices. I bought my current device there for $515 when the local store wanted $799. I calculate the cost per year for all my family tech. If the Motorola Edge+ 2023 drops to $600, it costs $150 annually over a four-year period. I never use carrier contracts. A dealer once wanted $400 for a "free" phone upgrade, but I bought a broken unit and fixed the charging port for $12 instead. I perform all hardware repairs for my three kids myself. It saves roughly $100 per incident in labor. Buying unlocked during these sales is the only way to keep the hardware cost per mile low.

Holding out for Cyber Monday myself. Last year's Edge+ had bigger discounts then (around $300 off). Might see similar deals this time too.
