So I finally pulled the trigger on the Razr Plus 2024 yesterday and man this pOLED screen is gorgeous but I am honestly terrified of dropping it. I've been a slab phone guy for like a decade so this whole hinge thing is brand new to me and kind of stressin me out. I was looking at some of the cheap options on Amazon but honestly most of them look like they use those flimsy adhesive strips that just lose their grip after a week of opening and closing the phone. I need something that actually stays put without ruining the finish.

Here is what I'm looking for specifically:

  • Must have some kind of hinge protection that isnt too chunky cause I still gotta fit it in my jeans
  • Budget is probably around 60 bucks give or take
  • Definitely needs a raised lip for that huge outer display
  • Material that isnt too slippery because I live in Seattle and it's always wet out here

Ive looked at the Spigen ones and the Otterbox stuff but the reviews are all over the place with some people saying the hinge cover scratches the screen or it makes it hard to use the volume buttons. Its frustrating because I want to keep the slim profile but the phone feels so fragile when its unfolded. Anyone found a case that actually fits the 2024 model perfectly without being a total brick?

To add to the point above: the engineering on these hinges is pretty precise. Are you planning on using a separate glass protector for that outer screen? That usually changes which cases actually fit right.

The current accessory market for the 2024 model is honestly pretty messy right now. I have been really disappointed with the manufacturing tolerances on most of the third-party stuff I have tested. Unfortunately, many cases claim to have hinge protection but they end up creating friction points that could eventually wear down the finish of your phone. I had issues with several brands where the adhesive just wouldnt hold up after a few days of heat cycles. After looking at the actual specs and fitment data, these are the only ones I would really suggest:

  • This uses a spring-loaded hinge tech that is much smoother than the sliding ones. It fits the budget at about 40 bucks and the TPU material has a nice matte grip that wont slip in the rain.
  • Poetic Spartan Series for Razr Plus 2024 Heavy Duty Rugged Case
  • This one is MIL-STD 810G-516.6 rated for drops. It is a bit thicker but the raised lip for the outer pOLED screen is actually deep enough to protect it if it lands face down. Ngl the hinge is always gonna be the stress point but these two at least dont feel like cheap plastic toys. Let me know if you need help with the install tho...

tl;dr: Just stick with Spigen. Seriously. They have the best balance of safety and slimness for foldables and their adhesive actually stays put. Like someone mentioned, the weight and torque on that hinge is something you gotta be careful with. Honestly though, I gotta disagree with the idea that you need a spring-loaded cover. Those moving parts usually just end up rattling or trapping dust that scratches the finish over time. I am super satisfied with the more streamlined designs from the big name brands. They feel way more reliable long-term. I have been using a basic Spigen case on my foldables for years and they just work well without the bulk. You dont need some crazy tank of a case that makes your pocket look like you are carrying a brick. Just look at basically any of the Spigen options for the 2024 model. They use a specific kind of tackiness that holds onto the phone without leaving residue, which is perfect for the Seattle rain you mentioned. Ngl, it feels much more secure than the cheap stuff. Im kinda obsessed with reliability since these things are so expensive to fix. If you want no complaints, just get the official Motorola gear or a Spigen. They have the raised lips for the outer screen dialed in perfectly so you can lay it face down without worrying. Better to spend a bit more on a trusted brand than risk a thousand dollar phone on a fifteen dollar generic case.

@Reply #2 - good point! tho i would be careful with those thicker rugged options. the extra weight can sometimes affect the hinge torque over time, especially on the new razr. i suggest looking for something with a spring-loaded cover instead of friction-fit. are you carrying this in your pocket or a bag? the added width really changes the ergonomics.
