I just got my hands on the new Motorola Razr Plus (2024) and I am honestly terrified of dropping it. I really need a case that protects the hinge and the large external display without adding too much bulk.
Does anyone have suggestions for durable cases that offer a solid grip and keep both screens safe?
yo, in my experience, i feel u on that anxiety. folding phones are lowkey terrifying when you first get them. i have been messing with these foldable designs for a few years now, and i've tried many different setups. basically, you need a mix of rigid polycarbonate and shock-absorbing tpu to handle impact. here's what i suggest:
honestly I've been messing with foldables for years and hinge protection is the trickiest part tech-wise... you want something that doesnt gunk up the folding mechanism. I usually look for brands like UAG or maybe slim aramid fiber shells. Before you buy anything tho, are you looking for a built-in screen protector for the front glass? Also, whats ur budget for this?
Re: "Seconding the recommendation above! Hinge protection is literally..." - tbh hinge protection is a double edged sword. i've been through a few of these folding phones and the biggest mistake i see people make is buying those super cheap snap-on covers that rely on tiny adhesive strips. after a few months that glue gets gross or dries out and the case starts sliding around. once it slides, dust and sand get trapped underneath and basically sand down the finish on your frame. its ironic really, you buy a case to protect it and the case ends up scratching it more than if you went naked. also, watch out for the hinge covers that stick out too far when the phone is open... they make it impossible to sit flat on a table and just feel awkward in the pocket. i always look for something with a spring-loaded hinge cover that tucks away neatly. if it feels flimsy or rattles right out of the box, just return it immediately. not worth the risk on a phone this expensive, honestly. better to spend an extra twenty bucks now than deal with a broken screen later because a cheap hinge guard jammed up.
Seconded!
Saved for later, ty!
Seconding the recommendation above! Hinge protection is literally everything. I unfortunately had issues with some thinner shells that let grit in and scratched my frame... super annoying. Honestly, if youre reallyyy worried about safety, just get any rugged gear from Supcase or maybe Otterbox. They are kinda bulky but basically nothing else feels as secure if you drop it. Definately worth it for the peace of mind.
Gonna try this over the weekend. Will report back if it works!
