I recently picked up the OnePlus Open, and while the battery life has been surprisingly solid for a foldable, I’m struggling to find the right charging setup for when I’m away from my desk. I know it comes with the 67W SuperVOOC brick in the box, which works like a charm, but I really need a second or third option for my office and my travel bag.
I’ve tried using my high-wattage MacBook charger and a standard Anker Power Delivery (PD) brick, but the charging speeds are nowhere near what I get with the official one. It seems like the OnePlus Open is pretty picky about protocol—it usually just defaults to 'slow charging' on my generic blocks. I’m curious if anyone has found third-party chargers from brands like Ugreen or Sharge that actually trigger the 'Ultra Fast Charging' animation? Also, do I absolutely need to stick with the signature red OnePlus cables to hit those top speeds, or is there a specific USB-C spec I should be looking for? I’d love to avoid carrying the original bulky brick everywhere if there's a more compact GaN alternative that’s compatible.
Does anyone have a specific third-party charger or power bank they’ve tested that reliably hits the 67W SuperVOOC speeds on the Open?
Ok so, I've been through the ringer with OnePlus+tech+since+the+OP1+d&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus tech since the OP1 days, and honestly, I've had a different experience than the others. You dont actually need to spend a fortune on official gear if you're smart about it!!
Respectfully, I'd consider another option besides those pricey GaN bricks. I've found that Oppo+65W+SuperVOOC+Power+Adapter&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Oppo 65W SuperVOOC Power Adapter or even the Realme 65W SuperDart Charger work perfectly with the Open because they use the exact same tech for way less cash.
* Look for "SuperVOOC" or "Dart" branding—it's the same protocol.
* Pick up a Baseus 100W USB-C to USB-C Cable 2-Pack for like $12. Just make sure the listing mentions 10A or SuperVOOC support.
* You can usually find these on eBay or secondary markets for under $25.
Basically, dont pay the "OnePlus+Tax&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus Tax" if you dont have to. gl!
Ok so, I've been a OnePlus+fanboy+since+the+OP3&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus fanboy since the OP3, and honestly, they've ALWAYS been picky with charging. To hit that 67W speed on ur Open, ur basically looking for Oppo's tech since SuperVOOC is proprietary. I've tried a dozen GaN bricks, and most just default to 18W PD which is sooo slow!
For your office, I highkey recommend the OPPO+80W+SuperVOOC+GaN+Charger&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OPPO 80W SuperVOOC GaN Charger. It's literally the same tech as the OnePlus+ones+but+sometimes+e&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus ones but sometimes easier to find. If u want a power bank for travel, the Shargeek Sharge Flow 10000mAh Power Bank is decent, but for TRUE fast charging, look for the Oppo+PBV02+33W+SuperVOOC+Power+Bank&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Oppo PBV02 33W SuperVOOC Power Bank—it wont hit 67W, but it's way faster than generic PD. Also, u definitely need the red cables or at least a 6.5A rated USB-C cable because standard ones cant handle the amperage. It's kinda annoying, I know, but that's the SuperVOOC life! gl!
Honestly, the OnePlus Open is SUPER picky with its charging tech! To hit that 67W speed, you basically gotta have a charger that supports the proprietary SuperVOOC protocol. Most PD chargers just wont cut it, sadly. I've had awesome luck with the OnePlus+SuperVOOC+80W+GaN+Power+Adapter&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus SuperVOOC 80W GaN Power Adapter for my travel bag cuz it's way more compact than the inbox one. Also, you definitely need that signature cable; I use the OnePlus+USB-A+to+Type-C+Cable+100cm&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus USB-A to Type-C Cable 100cm to stay at max speeds!!
Honestly, after having the Open as my daily driver for a while now, the charging situation is definitely the one quirk that takes some getting used to. I have spent way too much money testing different bricks lol and most generic ones just leave me hanging at like 18W. If you want a really solid office setup that isnt just another stock brick, I highly recommend the OnePlus+SuperVOOC+100W+Dual+Port+GaN+Power+Adapter&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus SuperVOOC 100W Dual Port GaN Power Adapter. It is a total game changer because it has both USB-C and USB-A ports. I use it to power my laptop and my Open at the same time, though the speeds do split a bit when both are plugged in. It still triggers the ultra fast charging animation perfectly though! For your travel bag, if you want something super tiny and dont mind a slight speed drop from 67W, look for the Oppo+50W+Mini+SuperVOOC+Charger&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Oppo 50W Mini SuperVOOC Charger. It is basically the size of a credit card and fits anywhere. 50W is still reallyyy fast for a quick top-up during a layover and it uses the same protocol tech. A few things I have noticed over the last few months:

Respectfully, I'd consider another option because third-party chargers can *actually* be risky for your battery health long-term! I'm kinda new to foldables, but honestly, I've learned that using random blocks might cause overheating. I'd totally stick with the OnePlus+SuperVOOC+65W+GaN+Power+Adapter&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OnePlus SuperVOOC 65W GaN Power Adapter or the official OPPO+67W+SuperVOOC+GaN+Charger&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">OPPO 67W SuperVOOC GaN Charger since they're designed for the protocol. Better safe than sorry with such an expensive phone, right??
