So I finally picked up the A55 yesterday and I’m already stressing out. Ive been using mid-range Galaxy phones for years so I thought I knew exactly which cheap tempered glass brands to grab on Amazon but the two-pack I just tried is peeling at the corners already.
Its like the glass curve is slightly different this time or something? I really dont want to spend $40 on those official ones but I have a hiking trip this weekend and I’m terrified of scratching the screen. Has anyone found a reliable brand under 15 bucks that actually fits the edges perfectly? My local shop only has the really expensive stuff and I need something that wont lift...
Saw this earlier and wanted to jump in! Youre totally right about the tolerances on the A55. It has that subtle 2.5D arc transition that makes cheap glass lift if the adhesive layer isnt thick enough. Ive been using the amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Galaxy A55 3-Pack and its amazing because they slightly undersize the glass to prevent that peeling. Plus the 9H hardness is fantastic for hiking! Honestly love how it actually stays put.
Man, I feel you on the edge lifting thing. It drives me crazy when the protector doesnt sit right and you get those annoying air bubbles. Ive used a bunch of different ones on my mid-rangers and the A55 definitely feels a bit picky with the frame. For a hiking trip, you definitely want something that stays put. I usually stick to these two because they actually cover the flat part well without peeling:
^ This. Also, I've definitely been there with the lifting edges and it ruins the whole look of a new phone. I'd suggest being careful with the cheaper bulk packs because the adhesive quality can be really hit or miss... usually miss. I struggled with my old A54 for weeks before finally getting it right. Are you looking for a matte finish for hiking outdoors, or just standard clear glass?
Honestly, be careful with those super cheap generic sets because I learned the hard way. I went through a whole phase of trying to save a buck on these things. Last year I grabbed a four-pack of some random glass for my daily driver before a big trip. Everything looked fine at home, but as soon as I got out in the heat and started moving around, the edges just gave up. Dust got under the corners almost immediately and by day two the whole thing basically peeled off in my pocket. It was a nightmare because I was so worried about a stray rock hitting the screen of my Samsung Galaxy A55. I would suggest really looking at the reviews for how it handles cases too. If you have a case that wraps even slightly over the edge, it might just push the protector right off if the fit isnt perfect. Ngl, I ended up spending way more in the long run buying three different cheap packs than if I had just gotten one decent middle-of-the-road option from the start. Make sure to clean the screen with actual isopropyl alcohol first too, because those tiny wet wipes they include are usually bone dry or just leave a weird film that ruins the bond. If you dont get that surface perfect, the adhesive wont stand a chance against that subtle curve. Just my two cents... better to be safe than sorry when you are out in the woods!
