I'm looking for recommendations on the best VR headset to pair with my new Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus. I want something that can fully utilize the phone's advanced features, like its high-resolution display and powerful processor. Comfort is also a priority since I wear glasses. Ideally, the headset should have adjustable IPD and a wide field of view. My budget is around $500, and I would love a headset that can also connect to my gaming PC for more immersive experiences. Any suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

TL;DR: Meta Quest 3 128GB is the best value per year of use. Phone-insert VR is obsolete. If you want to utilize the S24 Plus hardware, buy XREAL Air 2 Pro AR Glasses. They connect directly to the USB-C port and run Samsung DeX. I paid $449 for mine. It's the most efficient way to use the phone's processor for a giant virtual screen. For PCVR, the Meta Quest 3 128GB at $499 is the only sensible choice. Meta wants $80 for their Link cable, but I bought a Syntech Link Cable 16FT for $20. It saved me $60 and the data speeds are identical. Since you wear glasses, spend the $50 on Zenni VR Prescription Lenses. I did this to prevent scratching my $350 daily frames. It's a much better long-term investment than using the plastic spacers provided in the box.

Regarding what #2 said about PICO 4.

  • it's a decent option, but if you want something that focuses on the PC link and comfort, give these a look:
  • DPVR E4 PC VR Headset is a reliable choice for pure PCVR. It lacks the standalone bloat, making it way lighter for long sessions. The FOV is decent and it fits within that 500 dollar budget easily.
  • VIVE Flow VR Glasses are specifically designed to pair with Android phones like your S24 Plus. They're very portable and handle the glasses situation better than most bulky headsets, though the FOV is a bit narrower. Quick tips for your setup:
  • Get a dedicated Wi-Fi 6 router if you plan on doing any wireless streaming from your PC to the headset. It basically eliminates the stuttering.
  • Look into magnetic prescription inserts... they're way better than the clip-on ones because you can pop them out easily if a friend wants to try the headset.

Re: "PICO 4." - honestly that one is okay but i would stick with Meta for the ease of use. jumping in here because i spent way too long trying to make phone-VR work before realizing standalone is the way. the S24 Plus is a beast but modern headsets have their own screens and processors now which is way better for your eyes anyway. if you wear glasses, my number one tip is to buy some lens inserts! it saves your frames from getting scratched and feels 100x more immersive. within that $500 range, the Meta Quest 3 128GB is absolutely the king for PCVR. it handles everything i throw at it and the clarity is fantastic. if you really want to save money though, look for a refurbished Meta Quest 2 128GB... its still a solid entry point even if it feels a bit older now!
