I'm trying to buy this fancy espresso machine for my kitchen—it's like 300 bucks right now and i really need to save some money because my budget is super tight this month after paying rent. someone told me there are these things called browser extensions that can tell you when the price goes down but i am totally lost on how to actually use them safely. i tried to download one earlier i think it was called honey or something? but the second i clicked it it asked for my email and to create a whole account and honestly it made me really nervous because i dont want my data being sold or getting a million spam emails every day. i just want something simple that sits in the corner of my screen and tells me if the price drops without me having to give away my whole life story or my identity.

sorry if this is a really basic question but im just not a tech person at all and all these permissions settings are making my head spin. are there any tools out there that just... work? like i just install it and it tracks the price on amazon or target without a login? i really need to get this machine before my sisters wedding in three weeks so i dont have a ton of time to figure this out. i just want to save a few dollars without the headache of signing up for another service i dont understand...

I totally get the frustration with account walls! Its honestly refreshing to see someone actually reading the fine print because privacy is huge. Since you are looking at an espresso machine on Amazon specifically, you absolutely have to check out Keepa. It is a fantastic tool that I have used for years to track my high-end kitchen gear! What makes Keepa amazing is that the extension embeds a detailed price history graph directly onto the Amazon product page right below the item image. You dont even need to create an account or log in to see the data. It shows you everything you need to know:

  • historical price lows and highs
  • price differences between new and used
  • stock availability over time Basically, you just install the extension and whenever you browse a product, the graph appears automatically. It lets you see if that 300 dollar price tag is actually a deal or if it fluctuates lower every other week... which is gonna save you a ton. Since your budget is tight for your sisters wedding, this kind of data is a literal life-saver for making smart decisions quickly. I love how it just works without asking for an email address or sending a single spam message. It is definitely the most professional and reliable way to track prices without the headache of a sign-up tho.

@Reply #2 - good point! I actually use Price Drop Catch too and its seriously amazing! The fact that it doesnt ask for anything is a total lifesaver when you are worried about privacy like I am. No email or password needed! Its so fast to set up! Just add it and you are done. Definitely try it for that espresso machine!

To add to the point above: im very satisfied with how Price Drop Catch handles things. It processes data locally in your browser, so no account or email is actually required. It monitors the HTML price tags directly on Amazon and Target without phoning home. No complaints here, it works well and is a solid, budget-friendly way to grab that espresso machine.

To add to the point above: i totally hear everyone saying these extensions are simple, but i actually disagree a bit on just jumping right in. i am always a bit cautious about relying on anything that sits in the browser like that. you really have to make sure your browser is actually running right or the whole thing is just useless.

  • my cousin actually went through something like this last year when he was trying to buy a fancy burr grinder
  • he was so obsessed with getting the best price that he had like three different things running at once on his laptop
  • one day he finally got a notification, rushed to the site, and his whole browser just... froze up completely
  • turns out he hadnt updated his chrome in like two years and the extension glitched out at the worst possible moment
  • he ended up missing the sale by five minutes and was so mad he just drank instant coffee for a month out of spite you might want to consider that the tech can fail you when you need it most. i would suggest being really careful about how much you rely on the automation side of things, especially with a wedding deadline coming up. its just kinda funny how we trust these little bits of code so much when things can go sideways so fast. computers are just weird sometimes, ya know?
