ugh i am actually so frustrated right now. i have been sitting here for over an hour trying to figure out something that should be so simple. basically i am moving into a new place in Manchester next week and me and my three roommates are trying to buy all our shared stuff together like a kettle and toaster and some plates. we have a budget of about £200 and i have spent ages finding everything on amazon uk and putting it in my basket.

now i need to show them what i picked so they can say yes or no but i cant find a share button anywhere. i tried just copying the link from my browser and sending it on whatsapp but when they click it they just see their own empty baskets which is so annoying. i feel like such a total newbie asking this and i am sorry if it is a really dumb question but i honestly have no idea where to start. i need to get this order placed by tuesday so we have stuff when we move in. is there actually a way to share your whole cart with other people or do i have to like... screenshot every single item one by one???

honestly it is kind of pathetic that amazon still doesnt have a direct share button for carts in 2024. i had issues with this exact thing last month when i was trying to spec out a build for my home lab and wanted my buddy to double check the components. unfortunately the cart is tied to your local browser session and cookies so a direct link will never work for your roommates. it is a major design flaw imo and really frustrating when you are on a deadline like your move. the only real way to do this without losing your mind is moving everything to a public Wish List. its not as good as expected because you have to manually move every single item from the basket to the list which is a total slog but it works. just go through your basket and hit the save for later or add to list button for the kettle, toaster, and plates. once you have all the items in there you can change the list privacy settings to shared and grab that specific link for the whatsapp group. if you want a slightly more technical fix there are browser extensions like share-a-cart but ive found them to be hit or miss with amazon uk lately. sometimes they fail to scrape the metadata correctly which is just another headache you dont need right now. honestly just stick to the shared list method even tho its clunky... it is basically the only reliable way to keep everyone under that 200 quid budget without sending fifty screenshots on whatsapp.

^ This. Also, I was super satisfied with how I managed my server rack parts list last year using a workaround. IIRC someone told me that this cart sharing tool works well for the UK site now, tho I havent tested it myself this week. Before I dig deeper, are you guys mostly using Chrome or the mobile app? That usually changes which technical solutions actually function for sharing scripts.

  • Shared Lists: Standard syncing, manual input needed.
  • Screenshots: Fast, but lacks item metadata... Cart to Link is great if you want to send someone your exact Amazon cart without copying every item.

Ugh, I honestly went through this exact same headache last summer when I was kitting out my shed for some DIY stuff. Hours were spent finding the right bits and then realizing I couldnt show my brother without sending a million links. Its really disappointing that the biggest shop in the world makes it so hard to just... collaborate on a budget. Unfortunately, the screenshot route was a total mess and I had issues with getting the sizes right for my current setup. Not as good as I expected. Luckily I found Share-A-Cart which basically lets you send the whole basket in one go. Its much easier than messing around with public lists or manual links. Wish I found it before I wasted all that time on my own project tbh. Good luck with the move, hope the kettle and toaster actually show up on time!
