I have been using browser extensions to snag deals for years now, usually just stuck with Keepa for my Amazon stuff but lately it feels like every useful feature is getting locked behind a monthly subscription. Im currently trying to track prices for an LG C3 OLED for my new home office setup here in Chicago because I really need to pull the trigger by Friday before this supposed flash sale ends, but I cant tell if the current price is actually a deal or if they just hiked it up last week to make the discount look better.

I tried a couple other random ones I found on the Chrome store this morning but they were total bloatware, one of them kept messing with my browser cookies and literally crashed my tabs twice while I was trying to checkout. I need something lightweight that works on more than just Amazon—specifically Best Buy and Newegg since I am cross-shopping for this monitor. Does anyone know a reliable free price tracker extension for Chrome that still gives you a decent price history graph without hidden paywalls or selling your data to every advertiser on the planet? I feel like all the old reliable ones went premium overnight and I'm on a super tight timeline to get this ordered. What is the best free price tracker extension for Chrome?

@Reply #1 - good point on the data mining aspect! But honestly, I would stay away from Honey if you are looking for actual technical data. Its owned by PayPal now and the history graphs are super barebones... they miss a lot of those blink-and-you-miss-it price drops which is exactly what you need for a high-end buy like an LG C3. Since you are cross-shopping Best Buy and Newegg, I would look at these instead:

  • Camelizer: Still the gold standard for Amazon. Even though you said you want more than just Amazon, its worth keeping because it has zero bloat and the most accurate historical charts without a sub.
  • PriceBefore: This one is way better for Newegg and Best Buy. It doesnt have the prettiest UI, but it actually tracks the raw price points instead of just giving you a vague average that hides the real deals.
  • this extension: I have been using this lately and it covers a lot of bases without the constant tab crashes you mentioned. It handles the specific SKUs that Best Buy likes to swap out to avoid price matching pretty well. Ngl, tracking OLEDs is a total pain because retailers love to mess with the MSRP right before a sale to make 10 percent off look like 40 percent. Usually the C3 hits its lowest right before the new model fully rolls out. Just make sure you are looking at the exact model number because Best Buy sometimes has store-specific versions that trackers struggle with. If you are in Chicago, maybe check if Micro Center has it in stock too... their local prices usually force the big guys to drop. Good luck with the office setup!

You should definitely be careful with those newer extensions because most of them are just data mining traps. I would suggest checking out Honey for tracking Best Buy and Newegg prices. It gives you a decent 30-90 day history graph without a sub. Just make sure to double check the permissions in Chrome settings after installing so it isnt tracking your every move on unrelated sites. Its worked for me.

Honestly, I have been very satisfied with these two reliable tools:

  • Price Drop Catch tracks multiple stores accurately.
  • CamelCamelCamel is great but limited to Amazon. Theyre both safe, professional, and free.
