So I finally upgraded to the 17 Pro and I'm honestly stumped. I've been using Moment glass since the iPhone 11 days and usually the mount adapters work fine but this new sensor bump is huge and my old lenses are getting crazy vignetting. It's super annoying because I've got a trip to Tokyo in three weeks and I need a solid telephoto that actually works with the new 48MP sensor.
Does anyone know if Sandmarc or ShiftCam have fixed the alignment issues for the 17 Pro yet? Im worried the sensor is just too big for the older glass designs.
Regarding what #1 said about "Be careful with that new sensor, its huge....", they are totally right! That 48MP sensor is an absolute beast and older glass just wont cut it anymore. I just went through this exact same headache and found a setup that works like a dream for high-res shots! Since youre heading to Tokyo in a few weeks, you definitely need a longer focal length for those narrow alleys and neon street shots. I am obsessed with the new T-Series glass because the mount interface is literally larger to handle the wider aperture of the 17 Pro lenses. Here is what I recommend to stay under budget:
Honestly, even the newer Sandmarc mounts still feel a bit flimsy to me. In my experience, if you want zero wiggle on the 17 Pro, you gotta go with a cage. The Beastgrip Pro Universal Cage is the only thing that handles that massive sensor bump properly.
Be careful with that new sensor, its huge. I once brought gear that clipped the edges and it ruined my whole trip. For the 17 Pro, consider these:
I encountered those alignment issues too before I switched things up, tbh. My current setup is significantly more secure.
Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
