Hey everyone! I recently upgraded to the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and I’m absolutely loving the camera quality so far. I’m planning to do a lot more long-exposure night photography and some stable 4K video for my YouTube channel, but I’m having a hard time picking out the right MagSafe tripod mount.

My biggest concern is the sheer weight and size of the 14 Pro Max. It’s a heavy phone, and once I add my leather MagSafe case, I’m really worried about the magnet not being strong enough to hold it securely. I don’t want to risk my phone sliding off and hitting the pavement! I’ve been looking at options from brands like Moment and Peak Design, but I’m curious if they really live up to the hype for the larger Pro Max models.

I’m specifically looking for something that allows for a quick transition between landscape and portrait mode for filming Reels. Also, it needs to have a standard 1/4"-20 thread so it fits my existing Manfrotto tripod. I'm hoping to stay under a budget of $50-60 if possible.

Does anyone here use a MagSafe mount with their 14 Pro Max? Which one do you think has the strongest magnetic grip and the best build quality for heavy use?

Ok so I went through this last year. I was sooo worried about the 14 Pro Max weight too... I actually tried the Ulanzi ST-28 Magnetic Tripod Mount because it's CNC aluminum. It has the 1/4"-20 thread you need and handles the landscape/portrait shift well for Reels. It's a decent option and seems sturdy for heavy use, idk if it's the absolute best but it works! (at least for me)

Yo, honestly, I was kinda disappointed with the Moment MagSafe Mount with Cold Shoe. For the heavy 14 Pro Max, it's just not as secure as expected. • SmallRig MagSafe Tripod Mount Adapter for iPhone: Strongest magnetic grip (2.5lb pull), basically perfect for landscape/portrait shifts.
• Peak Design Mobile Tripod with SlimLink: Great build quality but unfortunately over your $60 limit. Go with SmallRig... it's literally half the price and holds tighter. 👍

For ur situation, safety is everything. • Background: Large phones like the 14 Pro Max need high-strength magnets to prevent micro-vibrations during heavy use.
• Why it matters: If the grip is weak, ur long exposures will blur and 4K footage will jitter. • Solution: Check out the NEEWER Magnetic Tripod Mount for MagSafe. It’s only $20-$25 and fits ur Manfrotto perfectly. The magnetic pull is honestly stronger than most 'premium' brands... flipping it for Reels is a breeze too. dont worry, it wont fall! gl

^ This. Also, I have to politely disagree with the idea that any of these basic mounts are truly 100% safe for a heavy 14 Pro Max. Honestly, I am a big DIY person because I have seen too many of these 'secure' magnets fail in the field when things get real. It totally reminds me of a trip last year with my cousin. He had a mount that was supposed to be the strongest on the market. We were out on a windy cliffside trying to get some long exposures, and he kept saying how solid it felt. Well, he went to swap it to portrait mode for a quick Reel and the torque just totally overwhelmed the grip. I watched his phone wobble like crazy and he had to dive to catch it before it went over the edge. We spent the next three hours trying to rig up a safety tether using some paracord and zip ties I had in my trunk just so he could finish his shoot. It was a massive headache and we basically missed the entire sunset while he was fussing with it. Just be careful and maybe think about adding your own reinforcement... I never trust factory specs when my expensive gear is on the line.

Ok so looking at the advice so far, the consensus is basically choosing between high-pull magnetic strength and the premium build quality of aluminum mounts. As an enthusiast who prefers a DIY approach for better security, I have to say I am way more cautious than most. I have seen too many heavy phones take a dive because people underestimated the kinetic energy during a quick transition between portrait and landscape. In my own experience, I actually stopped relying solely on the magnetic connection for my 14 Pro Max. I modified my current setup by adding a custom-made safety tether and a secondary tension screw. It might sound like overkill, but the sheer weight of these Pro Max models creates a lot of leverage. I learned that while the magnets are great for convenience, they dont always handle sudden shocks well. If ur going to be out in the field, I definitely recommend looking into some DIY fail-safes. Adding a small lanyard or a custom-fit bracing clip can give u that professional level of reliability that off-the-shelf parts sometimes lack. Honestly, its sooo much better to be safe than sorry when ur mounting such an expensive piece of glass.
